Mentors, tutors, and helping hands needed to support K-5 students after school!

Bring your helping hands to a classroom of elementary children from 3-5 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday afternoons. You will support reading, math games, homework, and enrichment activities. Stay at home parents, retired educators, and young adults or seniors who work with youth are often a perfect fit, but there is no experience necessary! Vaccination and masks are required.

The City of North Chicago is full of bright and talented students who are resilient. Despite their efforts, many students are months or years behind academically, socially, and emotionally. Our team is on the frontlines supporting youth in each of these areas, but underfunded districts like the city of North Chicago are hardest hit by the pandemic, and inequity continues to rise. Caring teens and adults must come together to help kids get back on track and reach their full potentials.

North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) needs 50 dedicated and passionate volunteers to support elementary school students in District 187 during our After School Enrichment Program. Volunteers help children with reading, math games, homework, and a variety of fun enrichment activities to foster gross motor skills and social and emotional development. Our staff will work with you to find a great placement in one of our classrooms, enabling you to build relationships with the same group of students week after week. Be the extra support that staff facilitators need in order to provide the individual and small group attention that each child needs and deserves.

NCCP has engaged 14,000 volunteers since 2008 in a variety of service opportunities.

Volunteer testimonials:

“Volunteering for North Chicago Community Partners is my favorite volunteer gig ever! I go every Tuesday from 3-5 to help an amazing teacher with some amazing 8 year olds in North Chicago. Due to the pandemic and inequities in education, these kids are behind. I truly feel as though I make a difference every week.”

“What I most enjoy is getting eye level with the students to work on math problems. The children with whom I have working are inquisitive and accepting. I thoroughly enjoy these students and find myself thinking about them all week.”

“Volunteering with NCCP has been a series of mini-moments originally motivated by doing something out of my “comfort zone.” Ever since the first occasion, it has been pure joy; an easy exchange of “me-time” for “others-time”.
