Survive & Thrive: Day Skills Festival

DAY SKILLS FESTIVAL — VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

Join Beanstalk and the Community Care Development Network (CCDN) for the Survive & Thrive: Day Skills Festival— a free, family-friendly community preparedness event in Center Point, Alabama featuring 8 hands-on skill stations covering first aid, navigation, container gardening, off-grid energy, fishing, sewing, situational awareness, and CERT demonstrations.

    Date: Saturday, June 13, 2026

Location: Mary Vann Lane, 1920 Old Springville Road, Center Point, AL

    Event Hours: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Setup begins: 8:00 AM | Breakdown begins: 3:00 PM

This is a high-energy, community-centered event. Volunteers are the backbone of everything that happens on the ground. No prior experience is required for most roles — just a positive attitude, a willingness to serve, and comfortable shoes.

Please include your T-shirt size in the Comments field when you sign up.

    VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Setup Help transform the venue before gates open. Tasks include arranging tables and signage, setting up station materials, and preparing the welcome area. Arrives at 8:00 AM. Physical activity involved — comfortable with lifting and moving equipment.

Event Breakdown/Cleanup Help pack down stations, collect materials, remove signage, and leave the space clean and restored. Begins at 3:00 PM. Physical activity involved.

Instructor Lead or co-lead a hands-on skill station throughout the event. Instructors should have working knowledge or certification in their area (first aid, CPR, navigation, gardening, fishing, fire safety, etc.). Must be comfortable presenting to small groups of all ages. Contact us directly if you'd like to instruct — we'd love to hear from you.

Outreach & Engagement Help spread the word before and during the event. Pre-event tasks may include distributing flyers, sharing on social media, and connecting with community organizations. Day-of tasks include circulating throughout the event, encouraging participation, and helping attendees sign up for summer and fall workshops and competitions.

Parking Team Welcome attendees as they arrive, direct vehicle traffic, guide parking, and help ensure safe pedestrian flow between the parking area and event entrance. Must be comfortable standing outdoors for extended periods. High-visibility vest provided.

Registration & Check-In Team Serve as the first face attendees see. Staff the welcome table, check in guests, distribute event materials and wristbands, answer general questions, and help orient families to the event layout. Friendly, organized, and comfortable with light paperwork or digital check-in tools.

Runner/Logistics Team The behind-the-scenes crew that keeps everything moving. Responsibilities include restocking station supplies, delivering water and snacks to instructors, relaying messages between zones, and responding to needs as they arise throughout the day. Great role for someone who likes to stay active and solve problems on the fly.

Station Support Assist instructors at individual skill stations. Help manage participant flow, demonstrate activities, answer questions, and keep stations organized and energized. No expertise required — enthusiasm and engagement are the most important qualifications. Volunteers may be assigned to one station or rotated throughout the day.

Zone Captain Oversee a designated section of the event, serving as the point person for volunteers and attendees in your zone. Zone Captains coordinate with event leadership, monitor station energy and flow, troubleshoot minor issues, and ensure every attendee in their area has a great experience. Best suited for volunteers with prior event, leadership, or community organizing experience. Reliable, calm under pressure, and a strong communicator.

    General Qualifications (All Roles)

    • Must be 16 or older (volunteers under 18 must have a signed parental consent form)
    • Dependable and punctual
    • Comfortable working outdoors in June Alabama weather
    • Friendly, community-oriented, and a team player
    • Able to commit to your full assigned shift
