Peace House Community (PHC) is a daytime community center for homeless and low income adults in south Minneapolis. Peace House Community (PHC) nourishes its members’ bodies and souls by providing a safe space for economically marginalized women and men. PHC enriches the lives of its members, volunteers and students by offering a place to belong for everyone who comes through its doors. Peace House Community does this by providing folks a meal, meaningful conversation and a safe daytime gathering place where they are treated with kindness and dignity. PHC's volunteers provide free services that are not available at other centers including hand massages, bike repair, neck and back massages, haircuts, clothes mending, art projects and more.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall health and viability of the agency. We are recruiting Board members who have experience in fundraising, marketing, branding and similar areas to help PHC expand its programming and solidify its future. PHC has been presented with several opportunities to expand its work and partnerships in the community and is looking for individuals with the specific skills to help us make the most of these opportunities.
Board members are expected to attend monthly Board meetings and to use their knowledge, skills and contacts to help PHC achieve its mission in a sustainable fashion. Board members serve two-year terms and may serve up to three consecutive terms. They are expected to help recruit their own replacements when they leave the Board.
PHC Board members are responsible for:
-Preserving PHC's mission, vision, and values, and ensuring that these are lived out in the daily activities
-Ensuring PHC's ongoing financial stability, including maintaining and developing funding sources, along with overseeing expenses
-Representing PHC in the community, to donors, and to volunteers
-Developing plans for PHC's services to its community
-Maintaining good relationships between PHC and neighbors, social service organizations, and others who share PHC's values and mission
PHC welcomes all applicants, but especially those whose life experiences reflect those of our community members. Stipends and other support may be available to potential Board members who fit this criteria, and they would not be expected to donate or raise funds.
By joining the PHC Board, you will contribute to a unique community in Minneapolis. PHC offers safety and refuge to homeless and low income adults as they deal with financial insecurity, social isolation, unpredictable life events ad more.
