Health Services Disaster Shelter Worker

The American Red Cross has an urgent need for healthcare professionals to help clients in shelters after a disaster. During wildfire season in Northern California, this need is critical now more than ever. If you are a health professional, please join the Red Cross as a Disaster Health Services Team Member today.

Disaster Health Services Team Member responsibilities:

• Provide hands on care for disaster clients in a Red Cross shelter. This care may include assistance with functional needs, wound care, and medication and medical equipment support.
• Provide health education, health assessments and determination if a higher level of care is needed.
• Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies.
• Support maternal and child needs as necessary.

Time commitment:

• Ability to work in a Red Cross shelter for at least 5 consecutive days. During these 5 days, shifts will be 12 hours long (both daytime or evening shifts available).
• Beforehand, complete required virtual self-paced training (4 hours total).

Members must have an active license in the following areas: APRN, CNA, DO, EMT, HHA, LPN, LVN, MD, PA, Paramedic, PCA, R. Ph, NP, RN, or be a medical student or nursing student.
