ResistTrump Network - Founder of Local Chapter

About ResistTrump: Trump told us he'd be a dictator on Day 1, and since Trump 1.0 usually carried out his most base wishes, we're preparing for Trump 2.0, the actual dictator. His cabinet appointments, so far, suggest a loyalty apparatus is in the works. Nonviolent civil resistance has worked against dictators and authoritarian regimes - it worked for Gandhi, for MLK, for the Serbian democracy activists of the 1990s, and for others. So we're using it. We seek a world without Trump and his enablers in power. We will reach that aim through lawful, nonviolent civil resistance. We are nonpartisan.

Our current game plan: While we recognize the immediate need for outfits like Indivisible to play defense versus Trump's intended policy agenda, we are currently planning to go on offense with a "pillars of power" strategy popularized by civil resistance authors like Harvard professor Erica Chenoweth. This strategy suggests that nonviolent movements can weaken the structures that support dictators by focusing on societal pillars like the "Business", "Media," and "Bureaucracy" factions supporting said dictators.

About the role: We are recruiting founders to start local community groups to be connected to the ResistTrump network, which was founded on November 24th, 2024 by Austin resident and Resist: Austin leader Nevin Kamath.

The chapter founders will be the public face of their local ResistTrump chapter, they will recruit other co-leaders with whom they will make decisions based on consensus, host a weekly ResistTrump local chapter meeting (1 hour, time TBD), make themselves available for a weekly leadership Zoom (1 hour, time TBD), and either co-lead fundraising to meet budget shortfalls or pay an equal share of the monthly operating costs of this chapter (the current monthly budget is $185/mo).

Time commitment is expected to be 10 hours/week minimum.

You can learn about “co-leadership,” generally, here: https://coleadership.info/

Applicants should have a strong ethical orientation, a growth mindset, decent communication skills (writing, speaking, listening), and 100% resonance with the vision, mission, and values of the ResistTrump network. These are as follows:

Vision: The future we demand is a world without Trump and his enablers in power.

Mission: We will reach that future through lawful, nonviolent civil resistance to Trump and his enablers.

Values: We will follow two principles in our collective striving for this future - 1) Lawful Nonviolence & 2) Collaboration.
