Soccer Without Borders (SWB) mission is to use soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing newcomer refugee, asylee, and immigrant youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion, and personal success. Its participants represent over 40 different countries and, by using the global game, has become an international leader in sports-for-social impact working in the Bay Area since 2006. SWB has received numerous awards, including the FIFA Diversity Award, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award, and the Beyond Sport Award.
SWB Oakland runs programming for middle and high school newcomer youth from a direct engagement standpoint. Our 15-plus teams practice twice a week, Tuesday-Friday, for 2 hours with Saturday games.
Volunteer staff will act as a supporting coach serving as a role model on and off a soccer field. Professional training is provided to all volunteers.
