    Emotions Matter: Who We Are

    Emotions Matters, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2015 to support, educate and advocate for people affected by borderline personality disorder (BPD). Our vision is to create a world in which every individual impacted by BPD has access to treatment and resources to survive, thrive and achieve a meaningful recovery.     The Role of the Board of Directors

    The Board of Directors is responsible for leading Emotions Matter toward its desired goals, and ensuring that its mission and vision to support, educate and advocate people impacted by borderline personality disorder is modeled and executed. The Board’s specific contributions are necessary for the proper governance, management and growth of the organization. Board members are elected for 1 or 2 year rotating terms.

    Marketing/Communications Focused

    Lead the Marketing and Communications Committee to direct Emotions Matter’s overall comprehensive marketing and communications strategy. Help lead a team of volunteers to oversee a consistent and active communication strategy to all stakeholders for the purposes of recruitment, program messaging, fundraising, awareness and branding.

    • Contribute expertise to assist staff in establishing organizational marketing, branding and communication plans and initiatives.
    • Build on current Emotions Matter brand and develop creative market outreach programs that will drive new business growth.
    • Advise staff on strategies and development for various marketing communications channels and web presences including, electronic/social media, newsletters, public relations, website and printed collateral.
    • Evaluate effectiveness of marketing initiatives both internally and externally and provide support to the Development and Marketing team as needed.
    • Communications/Marketing committee will meet 3-4 times a year virtually.

    General Board Member Responsibilities of a board member include:

    • Assisting in the vision casting, strategic planning and driving positive outcomes of goals and objectives of organization to achieve its mission.
    • Monitor the performance of the organization against goals laid out in a strategic plan, and participate in the strategic planning process.
    • Serving as Emotions Matter ambassadors in the community to promote our mission and growthby recruiting volunteers, raising funds, and promoting our programs.
    • Communicate regularly with the Executive Director or Executive Board about the mutually agreed upon volunteer area you will focus on, and serve on committees as needed.
    • Attend fundraising events and invite your networks to attend or participate.
    • Provide leadership at programs and events of Emotions Matter as needed.
    • Attending and participating in board meetings if they apply via Zoom, phone or in person. Board meetings for 2024 will be held six times a year bi-monthly, and 80% attendance is expected.
    • Board members are typically assigned to serve on a committee, and are expected attend a majority of committee meeting as scheduled.
    • Following and maintaining board policies and procedures as outlined in the financial policies manual and volunteer handbook.
    • Be a fiduciary agent of Emotions Matters by ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management by reviewing financial reports and voting on the budget.
    • Participate as voting members of the Board of Directors, and vote as needed on business.
    • Adhere and oversee governance of Emotions Matter as per our organization’s by-laws. Comply with non-disclosure policy, photo release and other policies of the board.
    • Follow community guidelines adopted by Emotions Matter at meetings and events, modeling as leaders our intentional culture of inclusion and sensitivity for BPD.
    • Support Emotions Matter’s events and fundraising efforts. This includes making an annual donation within your means and through soliciting the donations of others.

    Job Type: Part-time

    Term: One or Two Years

    Emotions Matter is actively seeking new Board Members for 2025-2027. The primary role of a Board Member is to serve as an Ambassador for Emotions Matter, support our financial, organizational and program growth goals according to our strategic plan. At Emotions Matter, we take our mission seriously, but we also enjoy working together and having fun!
