Role Title: Board Member

Reports to: President of the Board of Directors

MISSION STATEMENT

We are dedicated to nurturing a supportive community for mothers and birth givers who feel disconnected or lack a traditional village network. Our mission is to cultivate emotional, physical, and economic stability by providing a safe space abundant with resources and support. We strive to empower individuals to navigate the journey of motherhood with confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

At the Connecting Mothers Initiative, we envision a world where every mother and birth giver, regardless of circumstance, finds unwavering support and resources to navigate the transformative journey of motherhood, especially those without traditional support systems. Through our commitment to fostering emotional, physical, and economic stability, we empower individuals to rise above challenges and forge meaningful connections within our community. Together, we uplift and celebrate every voice, nurturing a legacy of strength and resilience for the generations of mothers to come.

About the Role: 

A General Board Member at Connecting Mothers Initiative (CMI) contributes significantly to advancing our mission of supporting mothers through education, resources, and community engagement. Board members provide strategic guidance and leadership in the development and implementation of CMI’s programs and initiatives. They play a crucial role in ensuring the organization's growth and sustainability by participating in fundraising efforts, outreach strategies, and partnership initiatives. CMI is a community organization currently pursuing 501(c)(3) designation status as a nonprofit. The board convenes at the end of every quarter, or four times a year. The board may convene at alternative dates and times dependent on when they are called to meet by other board members and executive leadership within the organization. All board members must ensure that CMI’s commitment to supporting mothers through education, resources, and community engagement is reflected in all our work, events, and initiatives.

This position will serve in a remote capacity, utilizing tools such as Zoom and Slack to collaborate with other board members and organizational leaders. Applicants must be comfortable operating in a start-up environment and should be prepared to maintain a high level of communication and coordination.This position necessitates a one-year commitment, though the duration can be extended if both parties are interested.


Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure the organization meets its mission and goals.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of CMI’s programs and initiatives.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Assist in identifying and securing financial resources to support CMI’s programs.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts and events.
  • Help develop and maintain relationships with donors and sponsors.

Outreach and Partnership:

  • Support the development and execution of outreach strategies.
  • Help identify and establish partnerships with other organizations.
  • Represent CMI at community events and meetings.

Governance:

  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings and any additional meetings as required.
  • Review and approve budgets, plans, and policies.

Advocacy and Communication:

  • Advocate for CMI’s mission and programs within the community.
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication between the board, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Promote CMI’s work and initiatives through personal and professional networks.


Qualifications:

  • A strong passion for and commitment to CMI’s mission of supporting mothers through education, resources, and community engagement.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit governance, nonprofit management, fundraising, community outreach, or program development preferred
  • Pursuing a degree or hold a degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, Communications, Finance, Social Work, Human Services and/or related fields
  • Experience in a leadership or advisory role is preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, including Microsoft Word, Google Documents, Google Sheets and Google Drive.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to dedicate the necessary time and effort to fulfill board responsibilities, including attending quarterly meetings and participating in additional activities as required.
  • Understanding of nonprofit operations and governance is a plus.
  • Comfortable using remote communication tools such as Zoom and Slack.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
