Respite Volunteer Position Description- Hospice

Role Summary: As a Respite Volunteer, you will provide temporary relief (respite) to

primary caregivers of individuals on Hospice Care. This role is crucial in

alleviating caregiver stress, allowing caregivers to attend to personal

matters, and ensuring the well-being of the individuals under their care. The individual

should be able to spend up to 4 hours a visit with patient to provide respite.

Key Responsibilities:

2. Provide Companionship: Engage with the individual in
3. various activities such as reading, playing games, or simply having a
4. conversation.
5. 
   
6. Basic Care: Assist with basic needs such as
7. meal preparation, light housekeeping, and personal care if required.
8. 
   
9. Safety Supervision: Ensure the safety of the
10. individual during the respite period.
11. 
    
12. Communication: Regularly communicate with the
13. primary caregiver about the individual’s status and any concerns that may
14. arise.

Qualifications:

• Compassionate, patient, and
• understanding.
• 
  
• Good communication and
• interpersonal skills.
• 
  
• Experience in caregiving or a
• related field is preferred but not required.
• 
  
• Must pass a background check.
• 
  

Training: Respite Volunteers will receive training to familiarize themselves with

the specific needs of the individual they will be assisting.

Time Commitment: The time commitment varies depending on the needs of the caregiver and

the individual. It could range from a few hours a week to several days a month.
