    Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Sustainability Manager (Volunteer) to lead our sustainability initiatives across our African operations. This volunteer role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by developing, implementing, and managing sustainability strategies that align with our organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sustainability practices, excellent project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability strategies that align with the organization’s objectives and global best practices.
    • Monitor and report on our environmental impact, including reducing carbon footprint, waste management, and resource efficiency.
    • Lead initiatives to reduce environmental impact and enhance social responsibility, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and community engagement programs.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies, to promote sustainable practices throughout the value chain.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and leverage opportunities for sustainability improvements.
    • Develop and manage sustainability reporting, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the communication of our sustainability efforts.
    • Provide training and support to employees and volunteers to foster a culture of sustainability within the organization.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for certifications, partnerships, and collaborations that enhance our sustainability profile.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in sustainability management, environmental consultancy, or a related field. Experience in a volunteer or non-profit setting is a plus.

    • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability programs.

    • Strong knowledge of sustainability frameworks, such as ISO 14001, GRI, or the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

    • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and present data effectively.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

    • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French or other African languages is a plus.

How Does the Volunteer Team Work?

    • Volunteer work is done remotely, and we meet once a week to update on the efforts made.
    • The volunteer should use the remaining hours for their activities, working asynchronously and conducting meetings, organizing documents, etc.
    • Potentially, the volunteer may travel to an NGO, organization, government body, or school to strengthen ongoing partnerships.

    Why Volunteer with Us?

By becoming a volunteer, you'll not only make a tangible impact on communities and the lives of Africans affected by climate change, but also have the opportunity to:

    • Develop valuable leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
    • Collaborate with a diverse and dedicated team who shares your passion for sustainability.
    • Build a valuable network with an international team, expanding your impact beyond borders.
