    General Program Assistant Volunteer

    Hours: 10–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday between 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

    • Flexible schedule; some evening/weekend events as needed
    • May include time in both Greensboro and High Point locations

    Time Commitment: Minimum six-month commitment to flexible based on your availability

    Position Summary

    The General Program Assistant Volunteer plays a vital role in advancing the mission of the Reading Connections Literacy Program Team by providing essential support to Program Coordinators, instructors, and office staff. This position helps ensure smooth program operations through direct assistance with student and tutor services, administrative support, and representation of the organization at volunteer fairs and community events. By serving in this role, you will directly contribute to creating opportunities that empower adult learners and strengthen our community.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support student recruitment, assessment, and tutor training preparation.
    • Provide assistance to students and instructors through phone, email, WhatsApp, and in-person interactions.
    • Assist staff with administrative tasks including copying, filing, preparing testing materials, shredding, and distributing communications.
    • Help maintain accurate physical and digital program files.
    • Represent the organization at volunteer fairs, community events, and other outreach opportunities.

    Ideal Candidate

    • Passionate about adult education, literacy, and community empowerment.
    • Professional, reliable, and able to represent the organization positively in the office and at public events.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect well with diverse staff, students, and volunteers.
    • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and timeliness.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Intermediate computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite preferred.
