Masters' degrees at Otago are internationally-recognized and are designed to equip you to move into employment, or to advance seamlessly to doctoral study.
Otago offers 30 Coursework Master’s degree programmes (taught Master’s) across subjects within business, humanities, sciences and health science – many of these programmes are truly unique and led by internationally renowned academics.
Otago provides extensive subject opportunities for Research Master’s degrees (either by thesis, or by coursework and thesis). For students aiming to continue to a PhD, Otago has some of the best PhD completion rates in the world and the median time to submission is just under 3.5 years.
Over 1,000 Masters' students at Otago are studying in a more varied range of subjects than is available in any other university in New Zealand. This includes specialist programmes in bioengineering; business administration; entrepreneurship; health sciences; international studies; nursing; marine science; Māori studies; Pacific Islands studies; sport development and management; wildlife management; and tourism.
