Nuestro Programa

For more than a century, Bank Street has been a leader in progressive education, helping educators and children develop to their fullest potential.

Bank Street Graduate School of Education is located in New York City and is committed to learner-centered education with a social justice slant. Cultural touchstones like The Little Golden Books, The Voyage of the Mimi, and Goodnight Moon all have roots in our rich history. We're also a big voice in New York City, as noted in the strong relationships we have built with the New York City Department of Education in the past few years. Our graduate programs prepare students for work in classrooms, cultural institutions, hospitals, community-based organizations, and other nonprofit work.

Our approach to progressive education emphasizes and embraces:

A recognition that learning happens best through meaningful relationships developed in the context of intentional communities.

A deep understanding of individual development, rooted in evidence about what works for learners at all ages.

A commitment to building educational experiences upon the strengths of individuals.

Social justice and principles of access and equity for all learners.

Advocacy, action, and the fostering of democratic principles.

Programs in the Graduate School of Education model these principles and values. Adult learning at Bank Street happens through inquiry, observation, research, and hands-on opportunities to help students build on their own knowledge, skills, and experiences.

Core to our approach is the opportunity for graduate students to apply what they are learning in sustained fieldwork experiences. While in fieldwork, students are closely mentored by Bank Street faculty and experienced practitioners and meet with a small group of peers to work collaboratively over time to develop reflective and supportive learning communities.

Clubes y Asociaciones

Council of Students

Council of Students (COS) is an open-membership graduate student organization at Bank Street College. All students enrolled in academic programs at Bank Street College are members of COS.

The primary mission of COS is to make life better for graduate students by being responsive to the needs of the College’s diverse student body. Historically, students in COS have organized to facilitate dialogue between Bank Street graduate students and the larger community in a number of ways; for instance, the development of the COS Workshop that is offered to students enrolled in Supervised Fieldwork/Advisement. The workshop focuses on issues of race and social justice in education and has led to the development of affinity spaces for students wanting more instruction and discussion in these areas.

COS has also sponsored programming for students to support one another’s learning. Examples include:

Each One Teach One, a yearly showcase of collective educational expertise within the graduate student body and beyond.

Orientation presentations to welcome new students.

Affinity groups and advocacy groups, such as the Bank Street Anti-Racist Allies.

A rotating showcase of graduate student art.

Regular happy hours and field trips to build community at Bank Street and beyond.
