Project Lead – 32-40 hours / week

We are looking for our next colleague to join us in supporting people and organizations who are changing the world. You will join our small, friendly team and consortium of highly-skilled, amazing operations staff and consultants. We partner with clients to strengthen their systems, and themselves. Our primary operating principle is to “be useful,” and every day we get to work with interesting, smart, mission-driven people and organizations who are changing the world for the better. We start each engagement with respect, and maintain that approach throughout every interaction. We keep our focus on impact, on building clients’ internal capacity, and on co-contributing to a more just and equitable local and global community.

We are looking for a person who can be at the center of us all and “make it work.” Someone to be the bridge between our clients’ needs and our services. This is a position for someone skilled at translating client goals into plans for real, tangible results. It means understanding both worlds. Our project lead will partner with our consultants, building and then driving project plans. This position will be best filled by a person who can listen to multiple stakeholders, look ahead, build plans, follow-up, adapt to changing needs, and manage many things at the same time.

As we continue to grow, we need you to join our consulting team – to bring your experience, energy, and insights to our team. Our diverse group of clients continue to need us to work with them to develop strategies, to facilitate their system-level conversations, to support them in growing the skills, teamwork and leadership they need. More and more they come to us needing a partner in their individual and collective work to embed equity and anti-racism into their organizations and services.  We’ve been doing consulting work with an understanding of intersectionality, power, privilege and systemic challenges for over 20 years now, and continue to learn and grow with each interaction.

About Crux

Crux is a group of consultants who work with clients to strengthen their organizations, strategies, and systems. We help with things like strategic planning, leadership coaching, board retreats, DEI work within organizations, training, facilitating meetings, working through internal conflicts or growth challenges. We are a small, woman-owned business, proud to have been certified by the National Gay Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, with our home office in southeast Seattle. (You can see our whole Consortium and examples of the work we do on our website www.cruxnw.com) We understand that people’s lives aren’t separate from their work, and our work schedules are flexible. Most of our clients are local and global nonprofits, school districts, city or county initiatives, foundations, and member associations. We also work with corporations and small businesses – particularly in the areas of strategy, DEI, and leadership development.

We believe that each of us learns and grows best as a team. We invest in the growth of every person at Crux and in our Consortium of colleagues - by setting each other up for success and providing learning opportunities across all aspects of our business. If you’re interested in something that Crux works on, then you’ll get to experience it. If you have an area of understanding that we can learn from, we’ll be interested in learning with and from you as well. Our internal norms include honest communication, respect for each other as human beings, commitment to modeling and forwarding equity and justice in our work, flexibility in process with commitment to high quality deliverables, and always learning. Each of us who works for Crux comes from a different background and brings our own culture and lived experience. We consistently welcome the diversity and expression of every member of our team.

Responsibilities

Project Management (70%)

·      Take incoming requests from prospective clients and work with our consulting team to build a response to the inquiry or a proposal including initial estimates of cost, time, and processes

·      Build a detailed project plan for confirmed projects

·      Drive timeline, budget, and communication throughout project lifecycle, leveraging tools such as Smart Sheet to track project milestones and develop status reports

·      Ensure we are on track, useful, and able to adapt to changing situations through excellent communication with clients and Crux colleagues

·      Be a part of client meetings, proactively building agendas, taking notes, and sending timely follow-up

·      Provide relevant data to Operations Manager in support of client invoicing

·      Track status of all new business proposals and manage needed follow-up

·      Be a thought partner with consultants as an extra set of eyes and ears in a client system

  • Support the continuous improvement of efficient project management processes

·      Be creative, persistent and proactive – ensure that you get the info you need to accomplish the tasks listed above

Project Support (20%)

·      Summarize documents provided by client during project launch/discovery phase to efficiently support consultant onboarding to new projects

·      Conduct online and interview-based research on behalf of clients, analyze the results, and present them to clients in useful ways

·      Support online and in person meeting facilitations – preparing materials and presentations, running slide presentations, setting up breakout rooms, keeping time, etc.

And of course, “other duties as arise” (10%) which, in a small business working in the social sector, means everyone adapts and pitches in.  We also regularly share food, walks, and other life experiences with each other.

Desired Experience & Skill Set

·      Capacity to build a timeline and keep people on track toward deadlines and objectives

·      Curiosity about the world of each client, paired with a desire and ability to provide them with useful, actionable information

·      Strong analytical skills – data is your friend

·      Proactive and results oriented – you are happy when things are completed!

·      Ability to draw out, understand, and then balance the needs and satisfaction of multiple stakeholders, both internal and external

·      Strong writing skills, most notably proposal and report writing

·      Demonstrated experience and success in managing projects

·      Ability to see and adapt to different cultures, contexts, and workstyles of our clients

·      Willingness to learn, take feedback, improve processes, and partner with colleagues

·      Familiarity with the nonprofit, social and/or public sector, and a passion for equity, justice, and the work toward a better world

·      Experience in working as a part of a small team, business, or nonprofit

·      A positive sense of humor and appreciation for a canine and child-friendly workspace

Work structure

·      Full time (three-quarters time may be negotiated if of interest to you based on your life)

·      Flexible work schedule. Crux is based in an office adjacent to our CEO’s home in Seattle’s Mt Baker neighborhood. We are currently a hybrid remote/on-site workplace. We have separate and safe indoor and outdoor office space, and we work better when we have the opportunity to see each other on site.

·      We estimate 60% of work duties performed on-site at Crux or at client locations.

·      All Crux employees are expected to be vaccinated and we participate in regular testing in order to be safe for one another and our clients.

·      Duties will typically be performed between (M-F 8:30am-5pm). Flexibility in those hours will go both ways. Many of our clients are on different time zones – that means early calls… We also respect the commute! When traffic is terrible, working from home is encouraged until it clears. Happiness matters.
