JOB TITLE: Executive Director


JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the overall direction of the organization. It is responsible for providing leadership and vision, public relations, and community involvement, and an organizational culture that is family friendly.  Responsibilities also include directing activities of various programs within the agency.

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors


SUPERVISES:

Finance and Operations Director

Education Director (Head Start)

Human Resources Director

Child Care Aware/Early Learning Scholarships Director


FLSA: Exempt


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and experience:

Bachelor’s degree required and five to ten years related experience with supervision of staff, fiscal management, and administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Internal Agency
  1. Organize and develop program planning to ascertain community requirements and challenges in specific fields of program and to determine agency responsibility in administering the program.
  2. Lead the agency in providing comprehensive and coordinated approaches in serving children and their families.
  3. Instill purpose and vision in all agency operations to ensure all program development is aligned to agency mission.
  4. Assume responsibility for development and administration of standards and procedures related to personnel including staff development, budget, and physical facilities. 
  5. Foster a bias-free environment.
  6. Provide effective direction in the utilization of the agency’s resources for staff and volunteers to ensure overall productivity and positive client relationships.
  7. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  8. Obtain, manage, and maintain adequate and appropriate physical facilities for the agency that will contribute to effective program delivery.
  9. Oversee the administration of the agency budget, ensuring the use of appropriate controls and proper accounting methods.
  10. Maintain awareness and respond appropriately to changing Federal and State funds to minimize impact on agency programs.
  11. Develop and maintain a family-friendly work environment that fosters high employee performance.
  12. Act as a role model to all staff representative of the policies and procedures of the Agency.
  13. Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the Agency addressing complaints and resolving problems while promoting positive employee relations.
  14. Recognize and embrace the complexity of the organization, empower and encourage a team environment within the Agency.


  • Board of Directors/Governance/Reporting
  1. Recommend new policies and procedures to the Board of Directors.
  2. Envision and plan strategic, business, funding, and annual planning for the enhancement of agency services and present plan to the Board of Directors.
  3. Advise Board of Directors regarding agency operations for policy and decision-making.
  4. Participate with all Board Committees.
  5. Present a balanced annual budget to the Board of Directors.


  • Local/Regional 
  1. Represent the agency during community projects and at public, social, and business gatherings.
  2. Establish and maintain relationships with other agencies and organizations in the community toward meeting community needs and services.
  3. Ensure awareness and knowledge of trends involving a variety of child care issues, and changing government and regulatory policy.
  4. Establish a plan and program of education which informs the public of the issues concerning Early Childhood Care and Education.
  5. Develop strong relationships within the Agency’s service area, i.e., legislators; federal, state, and local administrators and employers.
  6. Provide continuous promotion of the Agency name and programs to develop recognition throughout the Agency’s service area.


  • The Place LLC Governance
  1. Demonstrate collaboration with other local/regional entities where missions are in alignment.
  2. Participate in the governance body of The Place.

 SALARY & BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000. Benefits include Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability and 403(b) Retirement Savings, in addition to, paid vacation, sick leave, and personal holidays.
