    The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety,Juvenile Justice Commission, is looking for Research Data Analyst 2, in the location (listed below). The position will be appointed as a CSC TITLE IF APPLICABLE with a salary range of $78,024.71 to $111,000.80 per year.

    The JJC’s three primary responsibilities are providing care, custody, and rehabilitative services to youth committed to the agency by the courts, supervising and coordinating services for youth released from custody on parole, and supporting localefforts to provideprevention and earlyintervention services to at-risk and court- involved youth.

    Across a continuum of care, which includes secure care facilities, residential community homes, and community-based parole and transitional services,the JJC provides programming, supports,and opportunities designed to help youth grow and thrive and to become independent, productive, and law-abiding citizens.

    DUTIES:

    Under the limited supervision of a ResearchData Supervisor or other supervisory official in the Department of Law and Public Safety (DL&PS) Office of Justice Data (OJD), Law Enforcement Professional Standards (OLEPS) or Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC), independently performs a variety of complex tasks which include advanced research and data analysis; collection of data, scheduled report maintenance, and statistical work in one or more programmatic or investigative areas, utilizing structured and unstructured data from existing reports and resources for statewide business improvement; does all related duties as required.     REQUIREMENTS:

    NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the followingor a combination of both experience and education. Thirty

    (30) semester hour creditsare equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

    Seven (7) years of professional experience in collecting, analyzing, reporting, and disseminating large volumes of data using statistical techniques to identify trends or patterns in complex data for research projects; including or supplemented by 18 credits in social sciences, criminal justice, statistics, or a closely related field.

    OR

    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 18 credits in social sciences, criminal justice, statistics, or a closely related field; and three (3) years of the above- mentioned professional experience.

    OR

    Possession of a master’s degree in social sciences,criminal justice, statistics, or a closely related field; and two

    (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

    OR

    Possession of a Ph.D. in social sciences, criminal justice, statistics, or a closely related field; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.

    NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurateand informed decisions. LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

    SPECIAL NOTE: Appointment to this title may be made provisionally, pending the outcome of an open- competitive examination (PAOC).If selected for the positionand appointed PAOC, you will be requiredto apply for the open-competitive examination, when issued by the Civil Service Commission for this title, pass and be reachable on the resulting eligible list to become permanent in the position. Appointees who fail to be reachable on the resulting CSC eligible list are subject to removal.

    This positionmay be eligible to teleworkfor up to two (2) days a week as part of the JJC’sPilot Telework Program as authorized by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

    PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to candidates who have completedcoursework (education) in the area ofjuvenile justice and/or youth development. Work experience in at least one of the followingareas is preferred: making juvenile justice policy recommendations to stakeholder groups; preparing data and materials for diverse stakeholders, with a focus on offering system improvement recommendations regarding existing and proposed policy; using various types of information technology and technical systems to carry-out job responsibilities, including SPSS, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel.
