About Pratham

Founded in 1995 to provide education to children in Mumbai slums, Pratham (meaning "first" in Sanskrit) has evolved into one of India's largest and most effective non-governmental education organizations. We collaborate with governments, communities, parents, teachers, and volunteers, employing innovative interventions to address educational gaps. Our mission, "every child in school and learning well," is the driving force behind our efforts to impact the lives of India's children, from leadership to field teams.

Operating in 21 of India's 29 states, Pratham reaches millions of children and youth annually, spanning from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu. Our methodologies have transcended borders through ASER (Annual Status of Education Report), India's largest citizen-led assessment, inspiring similar assessments in fourteen countries worldwide.

Pratham USA relies on dedicated volunteers and operates through 13 chapters across the United States. These chapters raise awareness and financial support for our initiatives on the ground. With a prestigious four-star rating from Charity Navigator, placing us in the top 3% of all nonprofits in the nation, we demonstrate responsible financial practices, unwavering accountability, and transparent operations.

The Role

Pratham USA is seeking a Regional Development Manager to design, implement, and track fundraising initiatives, particularly for mid-level donations, in the East Region. This region includes chapters in the New York Tri-State area, Washington DC, Boston, and Raleigh. The Development Manager will be based in Washington DC and collaborate closely with Board members, volunteers, and the Pratham USA team. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy Operations, the manager will also work in close partnership with the Senior Director of Major and Principal Gifts based in New York City.

Pratham USA is looking for an entrepreneurial individual with fundraising experience and a strong sense of personal responsibility. The ideal candidate will be skilled at conveying our message persuasively to secure financial support.

Collaboration and Strategy Development

  • Work with the Senior Director and communications team to design and implement strategies for donor stewardship and retention, ensuring proper administration of benefits and recognition for current and lapsed donors.

Board Management

  • Manage chapter boards by organizing quarterly meetings, soliciting board commitments, and coordinating the onboarding and offboarding of board members in consultation with the Regional Director and Chapter Leadership.

Event Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and help execute local galas, salons, and other cultivation events in partnership with the national events team and board committees, overseeing fundraising activities at these events.

Donor-Centric Communications

  • Ensure consistent, donor-focused communications in all materials, including solicitations, acknowledgments, and stewardship messages, integrated into the CRM and customer service systems. Participate in writing, editing, and sourcing images.

Representation and Special Projects

  • Represent Pratham at local giving opportunities, including corporate employee matching programs, and undertake special projects and campaigns as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit development/fundraising is required.

  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to listen and tailor communications to specific interests and audiences.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications is required.
  • Motivated self-starter with critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a results-oriented team environment and meet established deadlines.
