Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time

Salary Range: $58,000 - $68,000

Position Summary

The Coordinator of Programs provides key support to the Parent Action Network, advocacy training, and civic engagement programs across the Los Angeles region. This position will also support developing and implementing existing and new programs benefiting the Latino/a community. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Programs. 

Responsibilities

Curriculum development and implementation

  • Develop and execute a data-driven curriculum related to ABC’s focus areas, including but not limited to Health, Higher Education, Civic Engagement, Environmental Literacy, and Digital Equity
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person workshops
  • Coordinate and facilitate Platicas on relevant topics and align with the Policy Advocacy team
  • Support the development of the Parent Academy Program
  • Collect first-hand experience stories from parents, students, and community members who are impacted by issues that impact the Latino/a community

Relationship Building and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Grow and strengthen relationships among partners, academic institutions, and stakeholders
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with cross-sectoral CBOs who are experts in specific topics
  • Engage partners, academic institutions, and stakeholders to increase ABC’s policy and advocacy efforts

Community and Civic Engagement

  • Identify outside opportunities for parents to expand their knowledge of Latino/a challenges and opportunities
  • Identify external leadership and advocacy opportunities for parents

Coalition Building 

  • Participate in ABC’s coalition calls and meetings, including but not limited to bi-weekly calls and monthly in-person meetings

Communications

  • Train parents, students, and community members for public comments and media interviews with the Communications Department
  • Identify opportunities for public comments and interviews with traditional media and other media outlets
  • Support ABC’s communications, such as texting platforms, social media platforms, and newsletters
  • Amplify Latino/a voices to advance Latino/a priorities, notably for these projects: CHARLAS, Mayoral Forums, LPN, and SELA Votes!

Administrative 

  • Participate in leadership development programs
  • Support board meeting logistics, board documents, board slide deck, and packets as they pertain to the area of work
  • Track and organize invoices and stipends as needed
  • Attend meetings to inform on the project progress, including monthly team meetings, Week In Review (WIR), strategic meetings, and other meetings as needed

Fundraising  

  • Support fundraising through grant writing, grant reports, and grant management as it pertains to programs
  • Support with ABC’s fundraising for Zocalos and Latino/a History Month annual event

Qualifications

  • All staff members must exemplify the values of ABC as they are presented
  • A commitment to the mission and goals of ABC and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the Latino community
  • Education: Minimum of an associate degree in a field-related program management
  • Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years full-time experience in program management
  • Content Knowledge: Must have the ability to analyze programs and communities and have some knowledge of Los Angeles and California public policy issues
  • Community Knowledge: Some experience working within the Los Angeles region, city, school districts, public officials and agencies, and key community partners with a deep understanding and experience working with the Latino community
  • Leadership Skills: Leadership skills with a proven track record in leading efforts with diverse stakeholders and partners and contributing positively to the work culture by being solutions-oriented and a team player
  • Collaboration: Able to work within a team environment and lead collaborative efforts to accomplish collective goals and objectives. Must maintain positive working relationships with organizational leadership and staff to meet collective goals
  • Organizational Skills: Good project management and multi-tasking skills, e.g., attention to detail, ability to create and monitor project budgets and timelines, proper documentation of work and record keeping, and the ability to prioritize work effectively
  • Communications Skills: Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proven ability to establish and maintain high-priority relationships. Preference for bilingual candidates (Spanish & English) 

Workload and Physical Demands

This position requires weekend and evening work as well as travel. The physical demands described here must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. While performing this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a personal computer for up to 8 hours a day and to talk on the telephone or webcam for multiple hours per day. The employee is occasionally required to support outdoor events and to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Because this position requires direct interactions with others, the employee must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, although reasonable accommodation requests will be considered.
