WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2005, RefugePoint partners with refugees to access life-changing solutions and transforms how the world supports them. As a leading innovator in the refugee solutions space, we identify pathways to safety and self-reliance for refugees and build collaborative efforts to embed our insights more broadly into global humanitarian response. As of 2023, RefugePoint has directly helped more than 140,000 refugees relocate to safety, supported more than 4,300 refugees in Nairobi to achieve self-reliance by establishing small businesses, and assisted partner organizations to reach more than 250,000 refugees globally. Our work spans 356 locations in 63 countries worldwide.

OUR VALUES

RefugePoint has core, cross-cutting principles and values that define our work:

  • Refugee-Centered: We create space for and elevate refugee voices and leadership within the organization to guide our work.
  • Anti-Racist & Anti-Colonial: Recognizing that racism, colonialism, and global white supremacy culture have caused many of the inequities driving the world’s refugee situations, we seek to integrate and center anti-racist and anti-colonialist principles in all that we do.
  • Equity-Focused: We deliver services, build capacity, and influence policies and systems to strengthen equity in the humanitarian sector.
  • Trauma-Informed: We integrate a trauma-informed approach and offer mental health and psycho-social support services to clients and staff.
  • Evidence-Informed practice: We use an evidence-informed approach to practice, i.e., the integration of research evidence alongside practitioner expertise and the people experiencing the practice.
  • Collaborative: The urgency of need and the magnitude of the problem requires shared responsibility and shared action. We seek opportunities to engage in networks and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

RefugePoint has grown considerably in recent years and is poised for further growth. At this critical inflection point, we are seeking a Director of Human Resources to bring leadership and capacity to the HR function, supervise a US- and Kenya-based human resources team, and ensure HR strategies are consistent, scalable, and people-centric across a global organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, the Director of Human resources will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive HR management strategy for a 100+ employee organization in the United States, Kenya, and Geneva that aligns with RefugePoint’s mission and operational goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day HR management, inclusive of full-cycle talent management, workforce planning, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, training and development, employee relations, and labor law compliance.
  • Institute standard operating HR policies and procedures, building upon existing policies and procedures and creating new ones. Bring a global perspective and develop policies and procedures that are relevant to international standards.
  • Supervise and coach a US-based HR Manager, and Kenya-based HR Coordinator, providing strategic guidance in the core functions of their jobs.
  • Oversee salary and total rewards administration, ensuring policies reflect RefugePoint’s compensation philosophy and commitment to fair pay equity.
  • Administer and promote optimal usage of HRIS (Paycor) and other systems, ensuring data integrity, privacy, and compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, address employee relations issues with effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Bring a forward-thinking and strategic approach to addressing HR challenges, taking the lead on formulating solutions that address short- and long-term organizational needs.
  • As a member of the Executive Management team, foster a positive work environment that encourages a culture of diversity, inclusion, equity, belonging, and alignment across a global organization.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You are inspired by RefugePoint’s mission and values. You are energized to join an organization that partners with refugees to access life-changing solutions and transforms how the world supports them.
  • You are a versatile, strategic, and proactive human resources professional. You bring 10+ years of relevant experience, inclusive of 3+ years in a senior role, with demonstrated skill in all aspects of HR management. Experience working at a global nonprofit organization is a plus.
  • You are a thoughtful people manager who provides clear direction and support. You are experienced in managing and coaching staff for high performance and accountability, and enable others to take ownership of their roles.
  • You are a strategic thinker with the ability to implement tactically. You approach HR through an analytical lens and take a hands-on approach to translating strategy into tangible activities.
  • You are a solutions-oriented and collaborative problem solver. You take ownership of proactively proposing solutions to HR challenges. You leverage HR best practices and innovative thinking in working with others to address problems.
  • You are an effective communicator who operates with emotional intelligence. You translate HR policies and procedures for all staff to easily understand. You are a deep listener and seek to understand others' perspectives and needs before responding.
  • You are an action-oriented, resourceful, and tech savvy doer. You thrive in a lean nonprofit setting with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of growth and change. You are proficient in using HRIS and other commonly used HR and office technologies.
