Position Summary

Essential Duties: 

The primary responsibilities include administrative support, prospect research and cultivation, and stewardship. 


Position Summary: 

Run for Something is currently hiring for a Development Associate. In this role, you will report to the Development Director. Your primary responsibilities are threefold. First, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Development Team as they seek to meet ambitious fundraising goals. Second, you help to grow and formalize our prospect research program. Third, you will assist the Development Team in stewardship of our existing donors.  


Responsibilities

The Development Associate will help RFS accomplish our strategic imperatives via:


Administrative Support (60% of time)

- Lead on donor data management in our donor database (NGP) 

- Assist Development Director withmoving donors along the pipeline, from identification to closing donations to stewardship, as well as tracking reporting deadlines

- Assist with internal Development Team needs, such as expense tracking, travel planning, and events support

- Help coordinate fundraising trips, including by assisting with data management, prospecting, outreach, and prepping travel briefs and materials for trips and donor meetings for co-executive directors and other leadership team members Prospect


Research & Cultivation (20% of time)

- Prepare accurate research on prospects and donors; assemble materials for cultivation and solicitation visits or calls

- In consultation with the Development Director, develop a system for prospecting our own donor database for upgrading existing donors as well as finding new top prospects for outreach 


Stewardship (20% of time)

- Manage donor acknowledgement process, ensuring timely thank you’s to our donors

- Arrange calls, webinars, and other stewardship opportunities for donors and advisors

- Assist with the writing and editing of appeals, acknowledgements, donor updates, reports, and proposals 


Key Goals 

- Support a fast-growing Development Team as we seek to meet ambitious fundraising goals

- Develop positive relationships with RFS donors and ensure they feel good about their support and role in the organization

-Grow and develop as an early-career political and nonprofit fundraiser


Qualifications

- 1-2 year of professional experience, ideally in a nonprofit, political, or customer-facing position. If you’re a retail worker who’s passionate about politics and volunteered for a campaign or cause, your experience meets what we’re looking for!   

- At least 1 cycle of political experience (can include volunteer time)

- A demonstrated interest in fundraising

- Experience working in database software (NGP preferred), online research, and Google Suite

- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to quickly and professionally prepare or proofread development materials (thank you notes, 1-pagers, proposals, reports, etc.).

- Strong verbal communication skills 

- Demonstrated ability to work in and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment

- Ability to work independently for extended periods of time in a remote environment

Plus Qualifications

- Professional experience in a progressive nonprofit and/or political campaign is valued

- Volunteer or professional experience fundraising for a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 527 PAC, or political campaign

- Experience using NGP Database Software

- Familiarity with the progressive fundraising space

Work Environment 

Run for Something is (and always has been and will be) a remote office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.


When it is safe to do so, this position will require attendance at approximately 2 all-staff events per year, which may include overnight travel. As this person grows in their role, there may be the opportunity to staff the Co-Executive Directors on fundraising trips as the pandemic allows.  This position requires the ability to work core hours, Monday through Thursday. This position will require some nights and weekends work approximately 6 times a year.

Essential Physical Requirements 

- As this is a remote position, the person in this position must be able to communicate with colleagues and partners via phone, including conference and video calls, as well as written communication such as Slack and email. 

- The position requires the ability to work on a computer for all or part of the work day.  

- The position requires the ability to attend events which may encompass all or part of the work day.

- This position may include travel, as described above. 



Compensation & Benefits 

Salary for this position is set at $72,600. In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. Run for Something salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
