    Job Summary

    Esco Uganda Ltd is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Coordinator to support our operations and customer engagement activities. The role will focus on ensuring compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), supporting the certification team (Organic, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, and others), and applying for and managing funding opportunities to support a cocoa regeneration project. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing sustainability, improving cocoa yields, and strengthening our operations in Bundibugyo and throughout Uganda.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. EUDR Compliance
      • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding EUDR requirements.
      • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure compliance with EUDR standards throughout the supply chain.
      • Develop and maintain documentation and records to demonstrate compliance.
    2. Certification Support
      • Assist the certification manager in obtaining and maintaining Organic, Rainforest Alliance (RA), and Fairtrade (FLO), and other certifications.
      • Liaise with certification bodies to ensure audits and inspections are successfully completed, and that Esco are using the most efficient certifying bodies.
      • Support the certification manager by providing training and guidance to staff and farmers on certification requirements and changes.
    3. Grant and Cocoa Regeneration Project
      • Identify and apply for funding opportunities to support a cocoa regeneration project.
      • Develop detailed proposals, budgets, and timelines for NGO-funded grants.
      • Lead the implementation of the cocoa regeneration project, ensuring all activities, including pruning, grafting, stumping, gap filling, and introducing improved cocoa varieties, are executed effectively.
      • Work closely with Esco team members and farmers to implement best practices for sustainable cocoa production.
      • Manage relationships with funding partners, ensuring open communication and alignment on project goals.
      • Write detailed progress and final reports for stakeholders and funding agencies, ensuring transparency and accountability.
      • Collect and analyze data to assess the project's impact on yield and sustainability.
      • Monitor deadlines and deliverables, ensuring the project remains on track and within budget.

    Qualifications and Skills

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Business Administration, or a related field is desirable.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in cocoa operations, certification, or working with NGO-funded projects.

    Knowledge and Expertise

    • Strong understanding of cocoa/agricultural farming practices and supply chain operations.
    • Familiarity with EUDR, Organic, RA, and FLO certification standards.
    • Proven track record in grant writing and securing funding for agricultural projects.

    Skills

    • Excellent communication and customer engagement abilities.
    • Proficiency in project management and reporting.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rural setting.

    Conditions

    • Based in Kampala and Bundibugyo with regular travel to farmer communities and project sites. Competitive salary and benefits package based on experience.
