Empower Me

Empower Me is Canada’s only multi-award-winning energy conservation and education change program designed for and delivered by members of diverse, multilingual, and hard to reach communities. Partnering with utilities, municipalities, and the private sector – in the provinces of BC, Alberta, and now Seattle – Empower Me provides culturally appropriate support and climate programming designed specifically for immigrants, refugees, people of color and newcomer communities. Empower Me bridges the gap of other programs, and ensures participants are empowered to understand how their home ‘works’, how to read their energy bills so they can save energy, save money, and increase the comfort and safety of their homes.

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic self-starter who can help us launch and grow our Seattle division. The Program Manager, Seattle will both deliver and manage the delivery of its energy efficiency programs in Seattle in close partnership with the Empower Me, BC team. The Program Manager, Seattle will report to Operations Manager, BC and work closely with the Empower Me, BC team to build the Seattle division, grow the Seattle Mentor team and ensure program continuity. 

To be successful in this role, you are a natural leader with a positive “can-do” attitude, have a collaborative team approach, and embrace a diverse range of responsibilities. You are community oriented, find joy in community engagement and understand what is needed to build relationships. You have excellent communication skills, are extremely organized and have an eye for detail.

What you’ll do

·      Build relationships and engage with communities in Seattle: Develop an outreach plan, research potential community partners and event opportunities. Meet and follow up with community partners, leaders. stakeholders, and/or funders. Report on status of relationships with community partners.

·      Deliver workshops, presentations, education events: Coordinate events and workshops to ensure energy efficiency and renewable energy education is delivered to the public. Work with interpreters as needed.

·      Manage projects: Represent Empower Me for all Seattle projects and contracts. Manage relationships with external project managers and contracting entities, set expectations, Offer strategic input on community engagement activities. Collect data, including demographics, event logs etc. Write reports as needed.

·      Build and manage the Seattle team: Hire, train and support multilingual part time Energy Mentors from the community. Provide direction and day-do-day management of their activities. Conduct regular team check-ins.

·      Manage Seattle operations: Manage data collecting and reporting systems within our CRM. Manage inventory and materials for workshops (project materials/flyers), deliver when necessary. Monitor budget. Participate in regular check-ins with Empower Me, BC team. Other administrative duties as needed.

What you bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in a similar role working with public and private stakeholders.
  • Must be a clear and compelling oral and written communicator with the ability to persuade stakeholders and facilitate groups, practiced in delivering workshops and presentations.
  • Community-centered with demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse communities in Seattle. Proven track record of relationship building and community engagement. Ability to work on weekends and evenings if needed. 
  • Experience in project management with excellent follow up, time management, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with energy, sustainability, and conservation or a willingness to learn.
  • Bilingual, preferably fluent in one of the following: Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Somali.
  • Experience writing proposals, grant applications an asset.
