The Advocacy Director will have an opportunity to build caste equity advocacy campaigns, strengthen infrastructure and cultivate caste competency across internal and external global communities. This position will establish a culture that supports caste equity and social justice, and grow partnerships and initiatives that build power around equity, and human rights. The Advocacy Director is passionate about developing relationships and building grassroots power in Caste oppressed and South Asian communities and doubling down on transformative organizing by establishing a culture in which leaders are catalyzed in collective movement building, leadership development, and advocacy. This role will support Equality Labs’ goal to help create more awareness and policy for caste equity. The Advocacy Director will manage the work areas of Education, Organizing, Advocacy, Research, and Dalit Organizing including expanding our healing justice initiative while supporting advocacy efforts with labor, companies, governments, non-profits, and universities. You will be responsible for helping to nurture organizing spaces locally, nationally, and globally. This includes assisting with strategy, program development, connecting spaces with EL capacity-building resources, and developing content and tool kits as needed. You will have a passion for ending caste apartheid and protecting digital freedom, while valuing relationships, tools and resources that empower South Asians. You excel at bringing people together to work for a common purpose. You’re adept at implementing, finding solutions, and adapting to changes as ideas turn into projects and campaigns. This position reports directly to Equality Labs Executive Director and is a senior leader who maintains an inclusive and positive environment.

Job Tasks:

● Manage and direct all advocacy projects of Equality Labs

● Develop, implement and oversee the Advocacy action plans for race and caste equity;

● Connect to the press, produce media and content for political campaigns;

● Promote Equality Labs’ vision and community organizing efforts to the public, with a focus on South Asian power building;

● Lead strategic direction of issue campaigns with a focus on building power, by aligning campaigns to civic engagement and elections, narrative and communications, and growing Equality Lab’s base.

● Use deep power analysis and issue-cutting skills to help organizers and senior managers create and execute razor-sharp campaign strategies by building a culture of campaigning that electrifies and focuses people.

● Hone and run bold state legislative and electoral campaigns.

● Lead process to develop long-term agendas and power analysis for various campaign areas (immigrant rights, education and democracy reform) with staff, grassroots leaders and coalitions

● Plan and lead direct actions with staff, leaders and coalitions.

● Manage blog posts, report backs and political education curriculum;

● Assist with the planning, scheduling and coordination of meetings including the design and development of meeting decks and other communications/tools

● Support Executive Director with the development and coordination of key external Grassroots Community Partnerships.

● Leverage data to evaluate deliverables and performance to strategic objective metrics and translate data analysis into recommendations for solutions to drive continual improvement.

● Assist Operations, and others in the development and execution of DEI Contracts;

● Assist in the collaborative development and implementation of training, activities, and materials

● Coordinate logistics (Zoom/ Webex room set-up, preparation of course materials) related to workshops, speaker series, classroom-based or online learning courses);

● Recruits, hires, and oversees all advocacy work

● Other duties and projects as assigned
