Rickner PLLC is hiring a paralegal to join our team. We are a boutique law firm representing victims of police and government misconduct in civil rights litigation. Our clients include persons detained on the notorious Rikers Island or New York State's dangerous prisons; those wrongfully arrested, prosecuted, or subjected to excessive force by law enforcement; and parents whose children have been illegally removed from their homes by government agencies.
The paralegal position includes an array of responsibilities, including administrative tasks, scheduling, client communication, document drafting, and legal research. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in combating police brutality or other abuses of government power.
Our paralegals are an integral part of our team and assist the attorneys in all aspects of our work. The position requires someone who is interested in client-facing work, including answering phones, meeting clients, and conducting legal calls. Legal research and drafting opportunities are also available. Much of the work is administrative, but is woven into all aspects of civil rights litigation. Our team meets weekly or bi-weekly to discuss projects, assignments, and new clients.
We offer a hybrid work from home/in-office environment, along with medical, vision, dental, and retirement benefits. Annual salary is consistent with experience, and ranges between $55,000-$65,000.
Bachelor's degree required. Experience or demonstrated interest in the areas of civil rights, constitutional law, criminal justice, police misconduct, and/or public service is preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and transcript to rob@ricknerpllc.com.
