GRAMMY-nominated pianist and keyboardist Miki Hayama graces the stage at Klavierhaus on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, as part of our Japanese Jazz Piano Series, From Tokyo to Times Square. She’ll be joined by Tenor Saxophonist Mark Shim. This series celebrates the vibrant musical and cultural bridge between Japan and New York.
Originally from Kyoto, Japan, Miki’s musical journey began with a classical piano degree from Osaka College of Music and further jazz training with the esteemed Sadayasu Fujii in Kyoto. Her passion for jazz led her to the vibrant New York jazz scene in 2003, where she has since established herself as a prominent figure.
Miki has performed and recorded with a stellar lineup of jazz legends including Kenny Garrett, Ralph Peterson, Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, and Roy Hargrove, among others. Her impressive discography includes acclaimed albums such as “Prelude to a Kiss” and “Wide Angle,” the latter earning Swing Journal’s Gold Disc Award.
Recently, Miki served as the musical director, arranger, and keyboardist for Nnenna Freelon’s GRAMMY-nominated album “Time Traveler.” Beyond her jazz career, she enriches her musical versatility by playing Hammond organ with the Gospel Choir at Cathedral United Baptist Church in the Bronx.
