    Position

    This position plays a key role as an ambassador for the Shalom Hartman Institute on the East Coast, building relationships with local foundations and Federations, Jewish leaders, new individual donors, and partner organizations toward achieving SHI NA’s strategic educational and philanthropic goals. Focused on New York region and Washington, DC, this professional will cultivate a deep understanding of the needs of SHI NA’s partners and target audiences and have a thorough grasp of the programmatic and consultative resources SHI NA offers - in order to establish and direct sophisticated and relevant ongoing partnerships and programs for both educational and fundraising purposes.

    This professional will direct and organize programmatic educational initiatives in both regions ensuring that educational goals are aligned. This person is also responsible for individual networking, recruitment and outreach for Hartman initiatives. Embodying and representing our content and values, this creative self-starter will also plan and recruit for regular donor/prospect events and meetings, manage strategic stakeholder engagement, and promote and recruit new prospects and members for the Hartman Giving Society and candidates to serve on the Board of Directors from these regions.

    The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate with external stakeholders to leverage networks, partnerships and Institute resources to establish a successful educational and fundraising profile for the Shalom Hartman Institute amongst key communities and networks.

    The ideal candidate is an experienced engagement professional, comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced setting, who is a confident relationship-builder and strategic gift solicitor, who will be passionate about securing major philanthropic resources to advance the Institute’s mission. The role requires someone who can prioritize among many different responsibilities, is a highly effective verbal and written communicator, with a strong capacity for time-management.

    • Based in-person in our New York office (a hybrid role - currently at least four days per week in person)
    • This position will report to the Vice President for Educational Operations and Regional Strategy and will work closely with the Managing Director of Philanthropic Engagement.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Serve as a local face of SHI NA in New York and Washington, DC; guiding local educational programs and fundraising activities.
    • Steward existing relationships with federations, individuals, and institutions and cultivate new partnerships.
    • Strategically design, plan, and execute programs for Jewish professionals and philanthropic leaders. This includes developing content utilizing SHI NA’s thought leadership and programmatic resources. Planning and execution work includes managing faculty preparation, and overseeing travel, budget, venue and catering, and materials, with administrative support.
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new major individual, family, foundation, and institutional funders.
    • Support the various fundraising efforts of specialized campaigns including annual campaign, Board campaign, capital campaign, and planned giving.
    • Identify and recruit potential Board member candidates in line with leadership, service, and giving expectations of the Hartman Board of Directors.
    • Recruit new and steward existing participants toward premier Hartman donor engagement programs including annual Community Leadership Program (CLP) and Hartman Giving Society as well as local and lay leadership educational initiatives.
    • Liaise with local Rabbis, Synagogues, Federations, Foundations, leadership networks and program alumni, to elevate awareness and engagement of lay leaders in Hartman activity.

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of experience and demonstrated success working with donors, lay leaders, supervisees, and lay Board leaders to advance fundraising programming and events;
    • Superior relational skills with colleagues and lay leadership;
    • Highly professional, customer-service oriented demeanor;
    • Takes initiative and executes on new ideas;
    • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented with proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment
    • Passion for SHI NA’s mission;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
    • Able to manage multiple complex tasks;
    • Familiarity with Jewish philanthropic landscape in North America and the local Jewish fundraising markets in the NY tri-state area;
    • Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions and knowing when to communicate and when to take initiative;
    • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively;
    • Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities;
    • Ability to staff occasional evening and weekend programs;
    • Regular travel expected – domestic and occasional to Israel;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – proven ability using Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Hebrew language familiarity a plus;
    • Good sense of humor;
    • BA / BS degree or equivalent.

    Salary range and benefits: $150,000 - $170,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package.
