Trauma Therapist - Brooklyn/Manhattan

Summary

The Shelter Therapist is a vital team member in the successful launch, development, and maintenance of Safe Horizon’s Satellite Shelter Clinics. The Part-Time Shelter Therapist is a 60% FTE (21 hours per week) position. The staff person in this position works one day per week at Safe Horizon’s Rose House Domestic Violence (DV) Shelter, one day at our Lotus House DV shelter and Wednesdays at our main clinic in downtown Brooklyn. The Shelter Therapist will receive comprehensive training in a various of trauma treatments and interventions through the counseling center in support of them providing trauma treatment to the children and families living in those shelters. Another essential objective of the therapist is to establish effective, collaborative relationships with these key partners with regard to referrals as well as (with consent) the clients they may share. In addition, the Shelter Therapist is expected to bring their clinical expertise in treating trauma survivors as well as their deep knowledge of vicarious trauma and trauma-informed intervention to all of their collaborations with other Safe Horizon (SH) program staff. 

Responsibilities:

•  Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.
• Provides trauma-focused treatment, to a caseload of 12 child/adult survivors of all ages
• Partners with the SHCC satellite coordinators in coordinating all tasks associated with the launch, development and maintenance of the satellite
• Actively participates in weekly individual and treatment-specific group supervision at SHCC
• Acts as the first point of contact for the SH staff of the “host” program at the satellite location
• Provides clinical consultation to SH colleagues upon request
• Attends staff and/or team meetings of the host SH programs, upon invitation, at the satellite location for referral, networking, care coordination, and clinical consultation purposes
• Facilitates referrals from the other SH programs and other sources
• Shares knowledge about trauma and vicarious trauma with SH colleagues as necessary
• Initiates team-building and problem-solving with SH colleagues as necessary
• Maintains timely and accurate documentation of all clinical activities in compliance with all Safe Horizon, City, State and Federal requirements

Qualifications: The minimum credential for this position is LMSW

Required:

• Demonstrates exceptional engagement skills not only with clients but also with referral partners within and outside of Safe Horizon
• Demonstrated compliance with Safe Horizon, OMH, DOHMH, and HIPAA regulations
• Superior assessment and crisis intervention skills (thoughts of harm, child abuse reporting)
• Excellent interpersonal skills required (including written, verbal, and clinical engagement skills)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills

Desired:

•  One year of Article 31 experience
• Ability to provide therapy in Spanish
