Position Description

The Congressional Progressive Caucus Center seeks a skilled Research Associate to support the policy, legislative affairs and communications teams by conducting research and data analysis to help the CPC Center develop people-first policy ideas and provide public education on the need for and benefits of particular policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Associate may have any of the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with Policy Director and other members of the program team to propose, develop and implement policy-focused, quantitative research projects
  • Compiling and organizing large datasets from government and other sources
  • Using Excel, STATA, SPSS, R or other tools to analyze quantitative data, examine changes over time, and determine the demographics of populations affected, or potentially affected, by policy proposals
  • Conceptualizing and drafting factsheets, reports, explainers and other written materials presenting research findings to the public in easy to understand, readily digestible formats
  • Conceptualizing, producing and contributing to charts and graphics
  • Building collaborations and strengthening relationships with researchers at social-justice oriented think tanks
  • Participating in and contributing to meetings with other policy and research organizations
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Relationships

This position will report to the Policy Director and interact closely with the Policy, Legislative Affairs and Communications Teams.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of post-college research experience conducting quantitative data analysis or a master’s degree in statistics, economics, public policy, or related field
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills
  • Proficiency on Excel and SPSS, STATA, R or related statistical tools
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Well-developed areas of research interest and publications
  • Ability to innovate and adjust to changing circumstances
  • Passion for the mission of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center and social movements for justice, equity, and fairness
  • Broad familiarity with the policy priorities of the CPC Center and the ability to quickly learn new policy issues
  • Commitment to centering anti-racism and equity in work
  • Ability to handle projects of various sizes and perform well under pressure in a small organization with a fast-paced, multitasking environment
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and adapt to changing situations
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills
  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment
  • Responsiveness to feedback
  • Willingness to pitch in where needed
  • Demonstrated flexibility and openness in responding to changing work priorities

Salary

$60,000 to $65,000, depending on experience.

Benefits

The Research Associate will also receive excellent benefits including generous vacation, paid holidays, 401(k) match, and paid health insurance. This position is within a union-represented bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment may be subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

FLSA Classification: Exempt.

Duration of Employment: This is a term-limited position (maximum duration of two years).

Location

This position is remote until the CPC Center’s office is able to reopen. At that time, this position will be based in our Washington, DC office.
