    Summary:

     The Case Manager is an essential link between the child victim, their involved family members and the CAC’s multidisciplinary team (MDT). Case Managers support the child and family through initial and ongoing investigation and criminal justice proceedings and provide critical victim support & advocacy services including assisting with appropriate referrals and linkages to Safe Horizon and community-based services.

    Responsibilities:

    • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.
    • Greet and orient the child victim and involved family members to the CAC and link them to assigned MDT members;
    • Advocate to police, child protection, prosecution, medical personnel and other social service agencies or partners of the CAC on behalf of the child and involved family members;
    • Engage families around service needs including domestic violence, public benefits, housing, crime victims’ benefits, etc.;
    • Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed;
    • Provide education about the purpose and process of the CAC investigation and prosecution in family court and/or criminal court;
    • Provide information about the rights of crime victims;
    • Provide information and referrals, compensation claims assistance, accompaniment to forensic rape exams and court appearances;
    • Provide follow-up telephone and in-person services;
    • Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team, consisting of forensic interviewers, child protection, law enforcement, prosecution, and mental and medical professionals, to ensure the family is kept informed, and the family’s needs are addressed;
    • Provide emergency and other practical assistance (food vouchers, emergency clothing, Metro Cards, financial assistance);
    • Maintain ongoing communication with families about the CAC investigation, criminal justice process and family/criminal proceedings when appropriate;
    • Enter new and ongoing case information into CMS in a timely and accurate manner;
    • Participate in multidisciplinary case review to represent the family’s interest and advocate for their needs; and
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related field required, or equivalent relevant experience.
    • Experience working with abused children (or other vulnerable populations) and their families preferred. 
    • Bilingual Spanish preferred. 
    • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, listening and communication skills and crisis management skills required. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team with a willingness to appreciate different points of view and problem solve in a constructive manner.
