Descrição

The Retired Employees of Los Angeles County (RELAC), a member driven, non-profit organization, is seeking a General Manager. The General Manager: will manage RELAC’s day-to-day operations; manage a part-time administrative team and their work product; report to the Board of Directors through the President and/or Committee Chair(s) as assigned; and, when required, serve as a spokesperson for RELAC’s Mission and purpose, increase public awareness, and broaden the organization’s reputation with members and partners.


DUTIES:

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

  • Manage an administrative staff of four (4) part-time employees. Manage the work and performance of, and schedule hours for the office staff.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of all new hires.
  • Ensure adequate office staffing coverage, functional redundancies, system backup, and knowledge transfer among staff. 
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and apprising performance.
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline employees.
  • Develop, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Maintain quality service by enforcing customer service standards, analyzing, and resolving problems and recommending plausible solutions. 
  • Oversee all RELAC accounting functions; assist in budget preparation; ensure quality control of the information stored in the RELAC database; and assist in the development of office automation.
  • Coordinate the production of documents such as Board Meeting packets, minutes, information materials, reports, presentations, work schedules and routine correspondence.
  • Be responsible for maintaining all pertinent records for the organization by ensuring that all records are filed centrally, filing systems are maintained and current, procedures for record keeping are established and monitored, and that confidentiality of records is maintained. 
  • Cultivate and facilitate a professional office environment; and promote teamwork and open communication among staff members.


MEMBER SERVICES

  • Support RELAC Committees in designing, arranging and oversight of programs to maintain and recruit RELAC membership. 
  • Support RELAC Committees in designing, arranging and oversight of programs to provide services to RELAC members and the community.
  • Assist the Board President and the Board of Directors in planning, arranging for and conducting scheduled and special RELAC business meetings and social events, including regular membership meetings and special informational meetings as required. 


REPRESENTATION AND LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

  • Represent RELAC with constituents, including county, state, and federal elected and administrative officials, and special-interest organizations as instructed by the Board of Directors.
  • Support the Legislative Committee by identifying, evaluating, and reporting on proposed local, state, and federal retirement regulations, legislation, and ballot propositions having nexus to RELAC’s Mission or operation. 
  • Work in partnership with the Board and staff to promulgate policies approved by the Board of Directors. 


COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

  • Support committees as assigned in designing, deploying and maintaining an effective RELAC member and public information program utilizing various communication channels, including, but not limited to mailings, web, and social media (e.g., X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook).
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with print, digital, and other media syndicates to advance RELAC’s Mission and positions. 


GENERAL, PROGRAM & BOARD RELATIONS

  • Continually assess, refine, and ensure that operations are professional and efficiently administered. 
  • Leverage technology to promote efficiency in organizational management, communications, advocacy, programs, and operations. 
  • As required, work with the President, Treasurer, Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors to develop the annual RELAC budget, long-range budget plans and strategic plans. 
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the Treasurer, that sound financial controls are implemented and maintained, that the required financial reports are developed for presentation to the officers and the Board of Directors, and that the federal and state tax returns are timely filed. 
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent partnership with the Board of Directors in setting policies and positions that are consistent with RELAC’s Mission and Vision. 
  • Participate in the Board of Director meetings and brief the Board on staff activities
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the President or the Board of Directors. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in government relations advocacy or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in the management of member-driven nonprofit organizations, governmental relations, public relations/public information, communications, or related field highly desirable.
  • Strategic, analytical, and planning abilities. 
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills, including leading staff, public speaking, presentation and writing skills. 
  • Knowledge and experience in public retirement matters are highly desirable. 
  • Knowledge and experience with technology and information management systems. 
  • Knowledge and experience with deploying and maintaining social media campaigns and knowledge of available communication channels.
  • Integrity, enthusiasm, and dedication that inspires and motivates staff, volunteers, and members. 
  • Leadership abilities that promote staff collaboration, accountability, and commitment. 
  • Organizational perspective that fosters pragmatic thinking, creative problem solving, and dependable program executions

  • General Manager will be expected to be in office Monday through Thursday and have the option to work remotely on Fridays.
