    Founded in 1977, our roster of experienced Teaching Artists provides a full spectrum of arts experiences in over 140 schools in all 5 boroughs of NYC. Marquis Studios directly serves 25,000 children each year. Our programs are designed to integrate arts activities with instruction in academic core subjects by making use of state and city standards. The planning process is individualized for each program or residency with the Teaching Artists and Classroom Teachers meeting to discuss the educational goals of each class before the lesson plan is created. Not just a one-time program, Marquis Studios involves the entire school community through professional development for school staff and family workshops to create sustainable high quality art programming for all.     Job Description

    Marquis Studios Teaching Artists lead in-school residencies, after-school residencies and workshops in New York City public schools. Our Teaching Artists work primarily with students in elementary schools, middle schools and extensively in District 75 schools, serving students with disabilities. Teaching Artists are responsible for creating engaging, well scaffolded and inclusive lessons, while working collaboratively with classroom teachers to meet their students’ varying needs throughout their assigned residencies. Each residency results in a culminating event or an informal sharing that demonstrates skills that students have developed while participating in the program.

    We are currently accepting applications for Teaching Artists with experience in:

    • Dance – Hip-Hop, African, Bollywood, Bhangra, and other Cultural Dances - experience working with students with disabilities a plus
    • Theater – Devised Theater, Storytelling & Improvisation -experience working with students with disabilities a plus
    • Music- Songwriting

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • In-school and after-school availability – Teaching Artists must be available for a minimum of two full days per week.
    • Occasional availability to facilitate 90-minute workshops on weekday afternoons or Saturday mornings. Workshops are assigned based on the availability provided by Teaching Artists.
    • Creating original curriculum that aligns with city and state arts standards, school curriculum, and reflects the voice of Marquis Studios residencies, including social emotional learning and culturally responsive sustaining pedagogy.
    • Working closely with classroom teachers and specific school administrators before the residency begins to:
      • Outline a plan for the assigned weekly program, discuss culminating event expectations and programming scheduled.
    • Working with students to:
      • Engage, enrich, and empower young creative artists of all abilities.
      • Develop critical thinking skills and social emotional learning.
      • Expand arts literacy through cultural and community connections highlighting marginalized voices.
    • Meeting specific professional development requirements which include: attendance at bi-annual all staff PD Days, discipline specific meetings, and attending two (2) professional development opportunities throughout the year.
    • Completing administrative tasks by assigned deadline (unit plans, planning forms, post- residency surveys, timesheets, etc.)

    Ideal qualities / skill set:

    • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
    • Experience working with students with disabilities across a range of settings
    • Knowledge of the NYC arts education landscape
    • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
    • Experience working with multilingual learners
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage authentically with diverse communities
    • Highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree or proven experience working in K-12 classrooms.
      • A minimum of two years teaching arts programming to Pre-K-8th grade students. Artists must display expertise in arts discipline of interest through educational and professional accomplishments.
      • Ability to balance process and product and create an informal culminating event within 10 – 12 weeks.
      • Ability to create well-thought out lessons and successfully integrate arts education standards.
      • Experience implementing classroom management strategies.
      • Availability to facilitate year-long programming.
      • Flexibility to travel throughout the 5 boroughs – STATEN ISLAND TRAVEL & CAR A PLUS.
