DESCRIPTION:

The Parkinson's Foundation (PF) makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. In everything we do, we build on the energy, experience and passion of our global Parkinson's community.

The Community Engagement department is charged with ensuring that the Foundation is continually identifying, listening and responding to the needs of the Parkinson’s community as collaborators and partners. The Manager, Community Engagement will oversee the development and delivery of the Foundation’s National community education programs including the PD Health @ Home virtual education programs in both English and Spanish. The Manager, Community Engagement will also lead outreach and education activities for the Spanish-speaking PD community and community health workers (promotores de salud).

It is essential that the Manager, Community Engagement demonstrates and upholds the Foundation values of collaboration, dedication, excellence, integrity, positivity, responsiveness and teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the development and implementation of the National PD Health @ Home virtual education and empowerment programs (English and Spanish) which includes but is not limited to: managing the calendar of events, defining program agendas, securing speakers and ensuring programs align with the strategic initiatives of the Foundation.
  • Implement strategies to gather feedback from the community both to ensure programs are valuable and to increase community engagement.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships and collaborations with outside entities (e.g. community grant recipients, Parkinson’s Foundation Centers of Excellence, community health worker or other organizations) to maximize impact of programs and engagement with the Foundation.
  • Build, develop, and maintain relationships among Parkinson’s constituency, including people living with Parkinson’s disease, community health workers (promotores), health care professionals and other stakeholder groups to advance community engagement goals within targeted communities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote the PD Health @ Home and Spanish education programs to the Parkinson’s community to expand overall reach and increase engagement with the Foundation.
  • Direct outreach strategies that focus on connecting with community health workers (promotores) and Spanish-speaking communities. Develop and maintain a reporting process to track outreach activities and their impact.
  • Facilitate the creation and dissemination of culturally appropriate continuing and professional education training programs for community health workers (promotores).
  • Manage ongoing networking and information sharing opportunities for community health workers (promotores) that have attended Parkinson’s Foundation trainings, which includes an e-newsletter and online discussion group.
  • Work with Chapter program staff to plan and implement Chapter programs in Spanish, including support for outreach and promotion activities, helping to ensure programs are culturally appropriate and impactful, and to serve as program moderator.
  • Serve as a liaison to relevant internal or external committees to ensure the goals of Community Engagement and the Foundation are represented.
  • Represent the Parkinson’s Foundation at conferences and community events.
  • Perform related work as required.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required. Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in Spanish and English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred. An emphasis in health education, public health, health promotion or social work preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years healthcare experience. Disease specific non-profit experience a plus.
  • The ability to deliver patient-focused high-quality health education programs and experience with community outreach, relationship building, resource mining, and an ability to form collaborative relationships.
  • Strong proficiency in project management with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Able to navigate complex issues and make decisions.
  • Highly collaborative; ability to work independently and as part of a larger geographically dispersed team.
  • Solution focused and flexible with emotional maturity and empathy.
  • Commitment and interest to learn about, understand and effectively communicate about Parkinson’s disease and a desire to serve the needs of the Parkinson’s community.
  • Demonstrated ability for working with individuals from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. A familiarity and commitment to Spanish-speaking communities a plus.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills (in both English and Spanish).
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office suite. Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Raiser’s Edge and Luminate a plus.
  • Some evenings or weekends required and the ability to travel nationally on Foundation business.

COMPENSATION:

Compensation for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
