GiveDirectly (GD) aims to reshape international giving – and millions of lives – by providing cash grants directly to the world’s poorest. The Brookings Institution estimates that $70B of cash transfers would be required to eliminate the poverty gap; the aid sector currently spends $135B each year, much of it on evidence-free interventions. Global HR Operations Associate

Our Global People Team is highly collaborative, employee-service oriented, and passionate about all things people-related. 

In this role, you will contribute to the evolution of our processes and procedures as we grow our organization in a hybrid work environment. Positioned on the global People Team, you will both provide direct service to our ~80 geographically dispersed shared service team members, as well as collaborate with HR Managers and Associates across our 9 country offices to support the whole GD team. You will implement HR systems, policies, and processes that are aligned with our commitments to equity and inclusion, and ensure we have the data we need to drive continuous improvements and to scale efficiently. 


For our Global Shared Services Team

Employee Compensation, Expenses, Benefits, and Perks

  • Conduct regular external compensation benchmarking, for new and existing employees, ensuring adherence to organisational policy and supporting the continuous improvement of said policies as we strive towards equity and improved transparency
  • Coordinate, communicate and oversee employee benefits
  • Manage monthly timesheet, global payroll, and expense reconciliation, and corporate card management

Employee Experiences

  • Support various aspects of our employee onboarding for full-time employees, part-time employees and/or contingency staff globally, including: processing background checks, managing our onboarding processes, work authorization, relocation and desk-set up expenses, employment verifications and compliance activities such as ensuring completion of required training and maintaining employee records
  • Manage office logistics, including managing coworking memberships and common office spaces where required for our remote-first, globally distributed team
  • Support various aspects of employee offboarding for global staff, including equipment buy-backs
  • Social events for Global Team

HR Compliance

  • Ensure legal compliance of HR regulations and applicable employment laws for global employees, including remote workers; update policies and/or procedures as required.
  • Support the team with immigration matters (support materials for visa applications, coordinating with immigration attorneys as needed)
  • Ensure compliance with Global Team Travel Policy, support global shared service team members  


For all GiveDirectly Team Members

HR Data, Systems, and Record keeping

  • Own data integrity in all HR systems (and synchronization of data between systems), working closely with a globally distributed HR team to maintain accurate data and employment documents, and ensure accuracy across other systems where HR information is required.
  • Build and prepare reports for analysis, extracting relevant insights that will support leaders to positively influence our organizational culture, in alignment with our values.
  • Maintain the People team policies and processes. Ensure all documents are up to date and current - work with relevant stakeholders to update when necessary
  • Support the collection of employee feedback data, both through the dissemination and analysis of the bi-annual global barometer, as well as the annual facilitation of peer-led DEI focus groups

Core Competencies & Experiences

  • 2+ years’ experience in an HR role, ideally with a focus on compliance, compensation, or HR project management.
  • Expertise in: a) US payroll (multi-state jurisdiction; end-to-end processing) and benefits management with thorough understanding of US labor laws; OR b) expert in global multi country payroll, compliance and benefits management working with professional employer organizations (PEO’s or EOR’s) 
  • Thorough understanding and hands-on application of internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices and standards.
  • Experience working in a globally distributed workforce with multiple locations and/or in a remote environment.
  • Meticulous, organized, and a proactive mindset.
  • Customer service orientation
  • Self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
  • Experience with various HR systems (HR reporting, benefits portals, etc.).
  • PHR, SHRM-CP a plus.
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly Values
