Position Summary:

Humanity United is seeking a fixed-term Manager to support and contribute across the Peacebuilding portfolio’s thematic areas of programming. These areas include: building agency for collective action; wellbeing and healing for peace actors; innovative approaches to peacebuilding; and inclusive peace processes. This role will work across the breadth of the portfolio and focus on grant management and team operations.

In particular, this role will contribute to work that demonstrates the importance of following the lead of those closest to the context. They will support and accompany local actors as they harness their own agency and use their expertise and power to foster new forms of collective action, deeper relationships, and more meaningful participation.

The successful candidate will be highly relational, a strategic thinker, and have demonstrated grant management experience. They will understand that meaningful change is brought by centering those who are closest to the contexts and systems they are trying to change. Experience in project management and/or peacebuilding, international development, and humanitarian fields are a plus.

The ideal candidate will bring an understanding of how programs and operations can work seamlessly together to serve the organization’s mission. They will understand how to employ different programmatic expenditures (grants, contracts, convenings, etc.) to support the work of a diverse array of organizations and will have experience in scoping, implementing, and closing multiple grants per year.

This role can be based anywhere in the U.S. Our hybrid work approach provides ongoing flexibility for regular remote work for this position, combined with periodic in-person gatherings. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Peacebuilding. This is a full-time fixed-term, exempt position.

Core Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all aspects of grant-making process (including program research, grantee proposal evaluation, grant activity tracking, post-grant reporting and evaluation, etc.), in consultation with senior team members and relevant functional colleagues
• Participate in team learning processes to inform the work that contributes to our strategic goals, including participating in learning and check-in calls with grantees and partners
• Manage programs and projects across the team’s work to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives
• Coordinate logistics for events relevant to programmatic activities and projects
• Contribute to team budget planning and processes
• Use all available information and collaboration to present trade-offs in terms of grants and investments, and make decisions in consultation with the rest of the team
• Research, read widely and report out on literature and studies relevant to programs and the team’s work
• Engage with experts, donors, government officials, media within program areas in consultation with senior team leaders
• Monitors and evaluates program performance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must-have requirements:

• Commitment to HU’s mission and values (including Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice) is a must
• Demonstrated work experience in a comparable role with grantmaking responsibilities
• Experience in deeply partnering with grantees and stakeholders to understand their needs and deploy different programmatic tools (grants, contracts, convenings, etc.)
• Knowledge of IRS policies that govern 501c3 public charities, private foundations, and 501c4 social welfare organizations
• Experience working with Grants Management software, Smart Simple experience a bonus
• Ability to situate programmatic work within broader intellectual, political, and philanthropic trends
• Experience in strategic program implementation and operations
• Candidates must have the right to work in the United States
• Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders

• Direct lived experience of the issues we work on
• Experience in systems thinking and systems mapping
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: peacebuilding, international development, and humanitarian fields

Salary: The salary range for this position will vary by geographic location to account for local job market & cost of living. Starting salaries within the range are based on job-related skills, experience, and background. At HU, salary progression is based on performance and proficiency in a role over time.
