The Producer, Performance and Programs is vital to MOCA in its efforts to deliver world-class

performance-based artworks and large scale live events at the museum. As part of MOCA’s

strategy to fortify the infrastructure within the Programing department, the Producer will play an

essential function in enabling MOCA to present a wide range of performance projects and live

events across the museum, including rentals.

Reporting to the Associate Curator of Performance and Programs, The Producer will lead the

technical production and realization of commissioned performances and live programs across

the museum including but not limited to performance art, performing arts, dance, festivals,

concerts, immersive installations, and cultural collaborations. Working closely with the Associate

Curator of Performance and Programming and the Director of Exhibition Production, the

Producer oversees the technical planning, management, and execution of all live programs. The

primary performance spaces are a plaza and an industrial warehouse, each without a

permanent stage or seating. The Producer needs to be able to work in different formats and in

multiple locations, and will possess a creative and flexible approach to all projects.

The Producer will manage performance production budgets, build a team who can assist with

the technical execution of all live programs, and source quotes to improve in-house

infrastructure and equipment. The position will regularly interface with artists and the general

public, all with the goal of making performance art and live events more broadly as accessible

as possible to diverse audiences.

Essential Functions:

● Plan technical details of productions, including working with artists, designers,

producers, and technical teams on design and construction details; soliciting bids and

meeting with vendors to work through technical details; creating and reviewing technical

and design drawings for implementation.

● Work creatively with artists and Associate Curator, Performance and Programs to

provide solutions within the production scope and budget.

● Oversee production load-in, set-up, technical rehearsal, performance, strike, and restore

of space, including seating and staging, lighting, rigging, audio and video installations.

● Conduct cross-departmental production meetings

● Develop and maintain production schedules and load-in and load-out logistics specific to

each event.

● Oversee implementation of all production elements during each show’s run.

● Manage MOCA AV team, contractors, and freelance technical and production staff

during preparation, load-in, load-out, throughout each show’s run.

● Hire and manage live audio, lighting, and video technicians and production assistants as


● Develop and sustain relationships with local vendors.

● Make suggestions for capital improvements to production infrastructure.

● Collaborate with multiple departments including Operations, Exhibitions, Security, and

Visitor Engagement to ensure that all live programs are executed to the highest

standards and to ensure that all live performances and events do not disrupt gallery

exhibitions or museum operations.

● Be available nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled and assigned.

● Perform other related duties as assigned.


● A minimum of 5 years managing and executing large-scale performance and event


● Demonstrated knowledge of live performance production and technology, specifically

sound, lighting, video, power distribution, rigging, and stage design.

● Knowledge of electricity and fire code.

● Experience and knowledge of presenting performance in contemporary art or alternative

spaces is desired.

● Experience managing a crew and drafting and maintaining budgets.

● Knowledge of safety standards for local, state and federal guidelines.

● Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work creatively with artists, react to onsite needs

quickly, manage multiple projects concurrently, and work both independently and as part

of a team

● ForkLift and Scissor Lift Certification. Experience in rigging and installation of equipment.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the

following: sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions;

climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and

lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision,

color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect

work. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required. Heavy

usage of computers and phones required.
