    The Global Justice Institute (GJI) is the hub for training, development, and convening at El Puente - realized through a process of codifying El Puente's 42 years of pedagogy and methodology of nurturing leaders for peace and justice. The GJI facilitates ongoing training and leadership development for the entire El Puente organization and practitioners from across NYC, nationally and internationally. Its training focuses on the areas of arts for social justice, arts integration, cultural organizing, community & youth development, environmental advocacy, and climate change.

    Who we are:

    Founded in 1982, El Puente is a youth-centered organization that uses the arts and education to advance social and environmental justice. Its mission is to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice, working as a human rights institution in NYC and Puerto Rico with national and international impact. El Puente creates community-led movements of self-determination through a holistic leadership and membership program model, as a high-impact youth and community development organization. As a staff member of El Puente, the Director of Development is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.

    As a staff member of El Puente, the Program Director of the Global Justice Institute is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization. They must work with the Executive Director, Director of Administration, and Senior Director of Programs, along with all Program Directors to: develop standardized frameworks, curriculum, training and development experiences, and convenings based on El Puente’s Social Justice Platform for El Puente staff, partner organizations and individuals who want to learn about El Puente’s practices.

    Responsibilities:

    Internal staff training & development offerings (40% time)

    • Develop and facilitate ongoing “Train-the-Trainer” program — cohorts of emerging staff leaders who complete training in El Puente core frameworks, facilitation skills, and personal empowerment.
    • Plan, produce, and facilitate ongoing all-staff development days, including September All-Staff Development Day, New Staff Orientation, Staff 101: The Creative Justice Approach, Staff 102: Transformative Community Building
    • Plan, produce, and facilitate targeted staff development opportunities around topics pertinent to programs. This includes strategies for teaching about social justice, creating a positive program culture, classroom leadership, instructional design, and relevant topics (i.e., climate justice and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico)
    • Plan and facilitate monthly Director's Collectives — leadership development sessions for program directors, executive director, director of administration, and senior director for programs
    • Coordinate materials, prep and run-through sessions, run-of-show, and debrief/evaluation sessions for training

    Development of core frameworks, content, curriculum, and publications (30% time)

    • Research and assist in the organization of El Puente’s archives and past studies to find relevant material on core practices
    • Collaborate with El Puente leaders to synthesize ideas and best practices into translatable materials
    • Conduct ongoing research engaging El Puente staff, members, leaders, and families in experiences around core practices
    • Develop dynamic toolkits (such as the ART-IVATE Toolkit and the ACTIVATE Toolkit) for use in training and development and distribution on online platforms

    For-fee training & development offerings to the wider field (ranging from 2-hour training sessions to 2-week institutes) (20% time)

    • Recruit, produce, and facilitate training and development opportunities for partners in El Puente’s vast network of organizations, institutions, schools, and individuals
    • Negotiate training fees and content of training
    • Hire/organize a training team to deliver content
    • Coordinate materials, prep and run-through sessions, run-of-show, and debrief/evaluation sessions for training

    Support organization-wide initiatives (10% time)

    • Take a leadership role in El Puente-wide initiatives aimed at achieving self-determination.

    Qualifications

    • Alignment with El Puente’s mission and philosophy of social justice, personal empowerment, and transformative community building.
    • Experience in program management, facilitation, curriculum development, or instructional design
    • Experience in developing and adapting core frameworks, curriculum, and training materials aligned with organizational values and practices.
    • Knowledge of developing and facilitating training programs, particularly "Train-the-Trainer" models.
    • Competency in the operational aspects of managing materials, run-throughs, evaluations, and debriefs for training programs.
    • Ability to research, synthesize, and codify best practices into translatable toolkits for use in training for a variety of learners.
    • In-depth understanding of social justice issues, particularly in the areas of arts for social justice, cultural organizing, and community/youth development.
    • Familiarity driving revenue growth by building external partnerships
    • Demonstrated capacity for building partnerships and managing both internal and external stakeholder relationships.
    • Strong leadership and collaboration skills
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and administrators
    • Strong organizational skills to plan, coordinate, and facilitate training
    • Proven ability to organize and implement professional development
    • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.

    Location: This is a full-time in-person position based in Brooklyn, NY.

    The salary for this position is $70,000. Salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity.

    Schedule: Generally Monday through Friday. Work days and hours may shift depending on scheduling needs; the typical schedule will be 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
