THE ORGANIZATION  

The Council for Economic Education’s (CEE’s) mission is to equip K-12 students with the tools and knowledge of personal finance and economics so that they can make better decisions for themselves, their families and their communities.   

We carry out our mission by providing resources and training to K-12 educators and have done so for over 70 years. Nearly two-thirds of the teachers we reach in-person are in low to moderate income schools. All resources and programs are developed by educators and delivered by our nearly 200 affiliates across the country in every state. We reach over 50,000 teachers a year through in-person professional development and those teachers, in turn, reach approximately 5 million students throughout the country. Our growing virtual educator programs will reach over 10,000 educators this year. EconEdLink, our free online educator gateway for economic and personal finance lessons and resources for educators, attracts more than 800,000 unique visitors per year. Our student facing programs, Invest in Girls, the National Personal Finance Challenge and the National Economics Challenge together reached over 30,000 high school students in 2019 (we went virtual in 2020, with great programs but fewer students). We also advocate for more and better education in personal finance and economics, primarily through the biennial Survey of the States. 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Program Associate provides support for CEE’s high school student competitions: the National Economics Challenge (reaching over 11,000 students a year in the US and 2,000 in China through a partner) and the National Personal Finance Challenge (reaching over 18,000 students in the US and growing rapidly). S/he will carry out a range of operational tasks and work with a variety of constituents, both internal and external, to help ensure the smooth running of the competitions. This position is a part of the Program team and will report to the Director of Programs. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Assist with all aspects of the events, including registration and attendee tracking, planning for the events, weekend-of-event logistics, post-event surveys, and evaluations 
• Coordinate with outside vendors to ensure they deliver on their tasks accurately and promptly – e.g. production managers, printers, photographers, catering 
• Coordinate event communications, in particular with state competition coordinators, coaches from participating teams, and others involved in the competitions 
• Assist with logging and tracking expenses to ensure projects stay within budget  
• Process invoices and order supplies 
• Prepare event materials, including name tags, signage, programs, save the dates & invitations in conjunction with the marketing team 
• Assist with database maintenance including data entry, record updates and basic data analysis 
• Update and prepare content for public facing resources 
• Carry out any other activities necessary to ensure the high quality of CEE’s student competitions and to meet program deliverables 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

• 1-2 years’ work experience; BA/BS degree 
• Ability both to carry out activities independently and work as part of a team 
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously 
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral) 
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs and various web video tools such as Zoom; Salesforce experience a plus 
• Solid organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Event planning experience a plus 
• Some night and weekend work will be required in the weeks leading up to the competition finals (April-June) 
• Note: All CEE employees are currently working remotely; NY-based employees will be asked to return to work in the NY office with some flexibility as to number of days in the office/at home when we determine it is safe to do so. If not based in New York, ability to operate independently and successfully in a virtual office
