Social Worker-Bilingual, Housing- Veteran & Aids Lega Services Project

worker with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy to join our team. We are expanding our current homelessness prevention program to include Unlawful Detainer defense clinics, trial preparation workshops and financial literacy presentations and need a social worker to provide holistic support services as part of our advocacy team of volunteer attorneys, law students and legal staff.

This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment to assist some of the most vulnerable low-income and disabled tenants in our community. The position will be a hybrid work of both in-person and remote.

Note: This position is funded by an 18 month grant with plans of an extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide information about housing assistance and other benefits to aid tenants in securing or keeping their housing.
• Identify and establish relationships with community-based providers needed to assist low-income disabled tenants.
• Provide referrals and linkage to culturally appropriate services to address immediate client needs.
• Provide case management support to individuals and families who are experiencing housing instability.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments to assist tenants in accessing necessary services and supports, and for the purpose of determining legal advocacy options.
• Provide housing related counseling and address additional needs such as safety planning, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and trauma-informed care.
• Advocate on behalf of tenants to access public benefits, social services, and medical care, in addition to other systems that are impeding housing stability.
• Write Letters of Support to help tenants advocate for appropriate services and resources.
• Collaborate with the legal team to obtain a successful legal outcome for tenants.
• Develop and provide community education presentations and interdisciplinary related trainings.

Qualifications

·        MSW degree or LCSW from an accredited university graduate program. We will consider ASWs who meet our other qualifications.

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·        Strong self-direction skills and the ability to work independently.

• Experience providing case management to vulnerable populations.
• A demonstrated passion for social justice and commitment to working with low-income communities and communities of color to advance equality.
• Experience assisting immigrant communities, low-income communities of color, and clients who are experiencing challenges related to trauma, poverty, disability, substance use, and other systemically marginalizing factors is preferred
• Familiarity with Los Angeles institutions and social service systems is preferred
• Experience providing client-centered advocacy, in the areas of mental health, public benefits, housing, child welfare, and the civil and/or criminal court systems is preferred
• Fluency or proficiency in Spanish.
• Knowledge of tenant housing rights is a bonus, but not required
