YTILI Communications Program Manager, WorldChicago

WorldChicago is a non-profit organization that is host to global emerging leaders sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and other exchange partners. The Program Manager at WorldChicago is responsible for a range of federally funded citizen exchange initiatives. WorldChicago seeks a full-time dynamic self-starter enthusiastic about citizen diplomacy and cultural exchange to be our project lead on several key initiatives, including the Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative (YTILI). Ideal candidates should have strong writing skills across a variety of program areas and experience in developing communications strategies for traditional and online modalities over a variety of themes. This role is a key team member responsible for reaching out to Chicago industry leaders to develop strong partnerships that empower local actors to play a major in our global work.

Position Communication Responsibilities:

  • Create and post social media content for the YTILI program across all channels
  • Collaborate with our European partner to develop an effective social media strategy and maintain an updated social media calendar
  • Design graphics to complement social media content
  • Follow the established approval process
  • Post social media content to YTILI social media accounts
  • Create social media toolkits for partners – Embassies, iHubs, in-country partners
  • Proofread/edit blog content collected from YTILI Fellows and alumni and upload to website
  • Monitor and evaluate analytics for YTILI social media channels, record partner outreach efforts on social media (Embassies and Innovation Hubs)
  • Help organize recruitment webinars with program alumni and partners to attract more applicants
  • Develop a program outreach strategy for recruitment and raising program awareness
  • Manage YTILI Website updates

Other Program Responsibilities

  • Manage all elements of select WorldChicago citizen diplomacy initiatives, including international and local travel, logistics and programmatic elements; oversee program and financial reporting
  • Assist in interviews with fellowship applicants
  • Plan and execute program activities
  • Participate in team strategy sessions
  • In partnership with team members, recruit community volunteers, including corporate and public-interest fellowship hosts; Further refine community outreach and volunteer strategy
  • Develop new opportunities for engaging the Chicago community with international leaders
  • Attend and assist in WorldChicago fundraising, social, and cultural events

  • Highly organized – can manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneous with multiple deadlines while keeping excellent attention to detail
  • Adaptable to changing program conditions
  • Calm under pressure – lead through uncertainty and develop innovative solutions to unexpected challenges
  • Strong communicator – excellent written and verbal communication skills for communication and marketing.
  • Globally minded – interested in intercultural communication, international affairs or committed to a career in international exchange work; fluency in a second language

Position Requirements:

  • At least 3 to 5 years of work experience in a fast-paced setting providing communications and project management, preferably with an international focus
  • Bachelor’s degree required and master’s degree strongly preferred in relevant field of study (international relations, international development, intercultural communication, business administration, international education, or another relevant field)
  • International experience or international exchange experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of external stakeholders
  • Occasional travel required (1 to 3 times per year); ability to work some evenings and weekends 

Preferred Experiences:

  • Experience developing content for social media posts
  • Strong writing skills a must
  • Experience maintaining and managing local teams of volunteers
  • Experience with website management
  • Experience designing or developing programs or events for professionals
  • Experience working or studying abroad
  • Experience managing federal grants or developing federal grant proposals
