Design creative content for food tech projects focused on saving the world

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is a nonprofit think tank working to make the global food system better for the planet, people, and animals. Alongside scientists, businesses, and policymakers, GFI’s teams focus on making plant-based, fermentation-enabled, and cultivated meat delicious, affordable, and accessible. Powered by philanthropy, GFI is an international network of organizations advancing alternative proteins as an essential solution needed to meet the world’s climate, global health, food security, and biodiversity goals.

How You Will Make a Difference

In this role, you will have the opportunity to create a variety of content and media for GFI including but not limited to print materials, reports, web pages, presentations, animations, eComms, fundraising materials, video content, and icons. Through your work, you will build GFI’s brand equity and maximize the mission impact of GFI’s programmatic work. The Senior Graphic Designer will be responsible for:

  • Participating in internal kickoff and discovery sessions with stakeholder groups, helping to establish scope and design direction for high-impact marketing campaigns and brand development projects.
  • Designing and producing media including print, digital, presentations, and event materials.
  • Creating and editing icons, illustrations, infographics, animations, and video assets for multiple digital channels including web, mobile, and social platforms.
  • Illustrating workflows, scientific processes, and conceptual ideas for our stakeholder groups.
  • Producing long-form editorial publications for web and print.
  • Contributing to brand development from concept to production.
  • Creating user-experience-optimized layouts for web pages in WordPress using Gutenberg.
  • Preparing and exporting files for print.
  • Researching and staying informed of aesthetic and technical design trends.
  • Image sourcing, retouching, and color-correcting digital photography.
  • Placing orders, managing proofing, and revisions for print productions, promotions, and mailing distribution.
  • Inspiring new ways of thinking, using fresh and unique approaches to design problems.
  • Managing GFI’s digital assets.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Who We’re Looking For

An ideal candidate for the Senior Graphic Designer position will have experience that reflects the following:

  • A minimum of four years of professional design experience.
  • Expertise in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and WordPress.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, XD, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Lightroom preferred.
  • Experience designing master slide themes in PowerPoint and Google Slides, and templates in Microsoft Word and Google Docs preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design principles in both print and web design, and the ability to apply those principles consistently when stewarding content through to completion.
  • Excellent layout, hierarchy, and typography skills.
  • Strong understanding of composition, with the ability to translate concepts into unique and brand-consistent designs.
  • Strong editorial design with visual narrative skill set.
  • Impeccable organization and attention to detail, including clean internal file management.
  • Self-motivated and independent, but with a desire to collaborate and grow with guidance from the Brand and Design Manager and Communications department team members.
  • A Swiss-army-like reserve of knowledge and tools to problem-solve creatively and efficiently.
  • Passion for learning about current aesthetics and trends.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Appreciation for constructive feedback as a growth opportunity; not afraid to receive and give feedback.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels like they belong.
  • Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in plant-based and other alt proteins, public health, environmentalism, climate change, animal protection, or hunger relief.
  • A commitment to GFI’s values: believe change is possible, do the most good we can, share knowledge freely, act on evidence, and invite everyone to the table.

We want the best people and we don’t want biases holding us back. We use a third-party anonymizing tool to redact personal information from submitted applications — including name, location, contact details, and several other factors — to reduce bias and increase fairness in our process. We strongly encourage people of every race, color, orientation, age, gender, origin, and ability to apply. Since we value a diverse workplace, we prioritize an inclusive climate absent of discrimination and harassment during the application process and after you join the team.

Research indicates that men tend to apply for jobs when they meet just 60% of the criteria, while women and people from other marginalized groups only apply if they are a 100% match. If you are passionate about GFI’s mission and think you have what it takes to be successful in this role even if you don’t check all the boxes, please apply. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
