The American Economic Liberties Project is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fighting monopoly power. We combine policy and regulatory expertise with strategic communications, coalition-building, and advocacy campaigns to help ensure policymakers protect workers, small businesses, communities, and democracy from monopolistic corporations to advance economic liberty for all.

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team who is passionate about our mission and will bring experience analyzing competition policy and antitrust litigation. You will engage policymakers and collaborate with our policy team and organizing partners to help drive action around bold approaches to address concentrated power and notch victories in fights against the biggest corporations in the world.

In this role you will:

  • Generate research ideas and conduct legal and policy research on antitrust and competition issues on tight timelines.
  • Analyze relevant legislation, regulatory actions, and litigation and serve as a resource for allies and reporters.
  • Draft and edit memos, petitions, letters, and testimony to Congress and federal and state enforcers.
  • Engage with enforcers, regulators, and Congressional staff and help support organizational allies.
  • Provide legal advisory support to team members working on policy research projects as required.
  • Cultivate and manage a network of legal scholars and plaintiffs’ attorneys to build out Economic Liberties’ legal research and policy work.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • At least four to six years of legal experience, with substantial experience working in antitrust law and other fields of corporate law.
  • An ability to develop and execute legal research projects with light supervision.
  • An orientation to produce content and solutions that are accessible and non-technocratic.
  • Excellent research, analysis, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external partners.
  • Methodical in approaching projects, strong time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to execute multiple work streams simultaneously.
  • Sense of curiosity about how markets work and ways policy could help decentralize economic power.
  •  An interest in politics and awareness of day-to-day political developments relevant to competition policy.

This is a full time, exempt position. The salary range is $90,000 to $110,000 plus excellent employer-paid full coverage benefits, including health, dental, and vision, as well as generous vacation and unlimited sick days, employer matching 401k plan, and up to twelve weeks parental leave. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
