About Stop AAPI Hate and Chinese for Affirmative Action 

Stop AAPI Hate is a national coalition of AAPI Equity Alliance, Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the San Francisco State University Asian American Studies Department. The mission of Stop AAPI Hate is to advance equity, justice, and power by dismantling systemic racism and building a multiracial movement to end anti-Asian American and Pacific Islander hate. 

This is an exciting period of growth and impact for Stop AAPI Hate (SAH). Due to the extraordinary demand and support for our work, we are poised to deepen and expand our reach and engagement throughout the country. This evolution will include the deployment of new strategies, additional programs, and increased staffing.  

Since its launch two years ago, the Stop AAPI Hate online reporting center has documented 10,300+ hate incidents affecting AAPIs and enabled us to raise awareness and shape conversations around anti-Asian racism. Our efforts have captured the attention of lawmakers and catalyzed them into action and spurred a broader movement for progressive change. Going forward, Stop AAPI Hate’s work in research and data, policy advocacy, narrative change, and community capacity building will address core issues areas including education equity and ethnic studies, community safety and resilience, and civil rights and racial justice infrastructure.  

Chinese for Affirmative Action is one of the founding partners of Stop AAPI Hate and also serves as its fiscal sponsor. With a legacy of more than five decades of achievements in civil rights and community progress, CAA continues to be a leader in and on behalf of the broader Asian American community.  

Position Overview 

Reporting to a member of the Stop AAPI Hate leadership team, the primary role of the SAH Director of Corporate Engagement is to lead our resource development opportunities with corporate and business partners. This position is responsible for ensuring the alignment of strategic goals and values that advance our overall mission.

We seek a stellar relationship builder who is committed to creating strong partnerships and understanding the power and possibilities in collaboration and teamwork. Since the Director of Corporate Engagement is one of SAH’s critical external-facing positions and sometimes communicates on behalf of the entire SAH coalition, this candidate must be a strong communicator. 

The Director of Corporate Engagement would build on a significant base of corporate donor and partnership relationships with small businesses and leading Fortune 500 companies in finance, technology, retail, consumer goods, and other industries. 

The ideal candidate is self-directed, collaborative and has successful fundraising experience including working with AAPI owned businesses and AAPI groups such as employee affinity and resource groups, and cultivating employee-giving campaigns. Previous private sector experience is a plus, as is an understanding of how to navigate relationships within large corporate structures.

An exempt position, the SAH Director of Corporate Engagement can work at CAA’s San Francisco office, remotely, or a combination of the two including potential access to other designated partner offices. Though subject to change, Stop AAPI Hate team members are expected to participate in periodic staff convenings primarily in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities 

Strategy & Leadership 

• Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive corporate engagement strategy
• Generate corporate donation commitments to support SAH’s fundraising efforts 
• Amplify, strengthen, and identify new ways to enhance SAH’s voice and brand across our corporate donors and partners
• Develop and implement meaningful year-around corporate engagement 
• Represent SAH’s leadership in key meetings with current and new corporate partners

Management 

• Prepare and manage corporate engagement budget
• Work cross-functionally with all staff and volunteers to meet resource development and engagement goals
• Provide comprehensive and meticulous management of our donor database to ensure accurate data entry, reporting, and analysis
• Collaborate with the AACRE Donor Systems Manager and the AACRE Director of IT to follow corporate donor data best practices
• Collaborate with the AACRE Director of Finance to ensure accurate front to back processing of all revenue streams
• Maintain a portfolio of corporate campaigns

Engagement Management 

• Maintain and grow relationships with corporations 
• Possess superior knowledge of customer and donor relationship practices
• Communicate organizational community impact objectives to donors, companies, and corporate and individual donor prospects
• Build customized corporate sponsorship packages for major corporate donors while developing corporate social responsibility packages for other corporate partnerships, as needed
• Collaborate regularly with fellow team members to ensure successful execution of all corporate engagement team strategies and business initiatives.
• Oversee corporate engagement specific initiatives
• Maintain a clear understanding of strategic communications and messaging best practices specific to corporate philanthropy
• Contribute to the development of collateral 

Qualifications 

• 7-10+ years experience in executive-level multi-stakeholder engagement
• Strong commitment to the mission and values of Stop AAPI Hate, including a commitment to social justice, equity, and civic engagement
• Experience working with Fortune 500 companies
• Experience working with AAPI owned businesses and AAPI groups, including employee affinity and resource groups and cultivating employee-giving campaigns
• Understanding of how to navigate relationships within large corporate structures
• Management experience inspiring a team and highly collaborative style 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
• Highly relational with strong ability to build relationships with donors, vendors, colleagues, and partners
• Impeccable attention to detail and ability to develop and improve systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness
• Strong desire to learn and grow professionally
• Highly organized with the ability to deliver on commitments in a timely manner
• Strong computer proficiency with expertise in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and donor databases
