Title: Mutual Aid Coordinator

Hours: 40 hours per week - Non Exempt Position

Reports to: Wellness and Prevention Manager 

Organization: Street Level Health Project is an Oakland-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of underserved, urban, immigrant communities in the Bay Area. We prioritize a holistic health framework that provides direct services to empower low-wage workers to access and advocate for resources that strengthen communities.

Wellness & Prevention Program

The Wellness and Prevention program provides health navigation and referral services to uninsured and underserved immigrants in the Bay Area. The program does so by operating an agency hotline to connect community members to the corresponding department and service in a timely manner. Select appointments are offered to clients with specific needs. It also works alongside our Mutual Aid Program and includes the weekly distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables to single adults and families in the surrounding neighborhood.

Mutual Aid Program 

The mutual aid program provides weekly distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables, hot and nutritious meals to single adults and families in the surrounding neighborhood. Items are distributed during distribution days and special events. The mutual aid program also provides hot breakfast once a week to day laborers seeking jobs at various stops in the Oakland area. Personal protective equipment (PPE), diapers, and other aid is also provided to the community as it becomes available to the organization. Community resource and public program referrals are completed in collaboration with the Wellness and Prevention Program. 

Mutual Aid Responsibilities: 45%

• Schedule appointment with Alameda Food Bank for fresh produce pick up.
• Order hot meals for food distribution days with the mutual program. 
• Coordinate with team members to pick up fresh produce and hot meals from multiple vendors. 
• In collaboration, sort through fresh produce as it arrives. 
• Coordinate purchases or donations of resources such as masks, diapers, hand sanitizer, etc. and oversee the distribution of items.
• Ensure all check stubs, receipts and invoices of purchases made are submitted on time for grant reporting.
• Generate reports for Food bank, and other mutual aid related grants and invoicing with Salesforce data as needed.
• Ensure recording and tracking of participant information, during food distribution via Salesforce. 
• Track and enter food purchases for food distribution for monthly grant invoicing. 
• Create recipes to share with the community during food distribution based on the produce being distributed. 

Health Navigator Responsibilities: 45%

• Serve as a liaison to agencies across service sectors to ensure access for clients, including site visits to area agencies to nurture referral relationships.
• Provide weekly outreach in collaboration with the Wellness and Prevention program.
• Support with community hotline calls and respond to queries regarding the mutual aid program.
• Periodic assistance answering Street Level’s hotline as a phone operator; send referrals to appropriate staff members for follow-up.
• Assist in speaking with community members during drop-in visits.
• Participate in weekly W&P team meetings.

Administration Support: 10%

• Coordinate with other team members on the use of company property to accomplish primary responsibilities.
• Train and support food distribution community health workers and volunteers in assisting the mutual aid program. 
• Facilitate weekly program meetings with staff to ensure clear and consistent communication.
• Ensure distribution procedures are followed during weekly foodbank, facilitate annual site visit, and attend Alameda County Food Bank meetings as calendared, attend food justice meetings and coordinate meetings as needed. 
• Collaborate on conflict resolution with staff, community health workers, volunteers and community members. 
• Assist Office Manager with screening potential mutual aid volunteers. 
• Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly program meetings.
• Help with organizational events as needed (e.g. community events, volunteer recruitment fairs, quarterly outreach and health screenings in conjunction with HAP, IRE and W&P. etc).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Spanish-English bilingual, both spoken and written.
• Strong communication skills, including facilitation, conflict resolution and writing skills.
• Strong teamwork skills and desire to work collaboratively.
• Able to multi-task with flexibility, responsiveness, clear boundaries and excellent time management.
• Able to lift 15 - 20lbs regularly and occasionally lift up to 50lbs in a team lift. 
• Experience with recruitment and outreach in a wide variety of sites including: schools, community events, churches/faith communities and health systems.
• Independent, self-motivated, organized and able to meet deadlines.
• Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs and basic computer skills.
• Valid Driver’s license

Skills and Experienced Preferred:

• Experience with basic case management, peer based counseling, or direct client advocacy.
• Strong interest in social justice, social welfare, mental health, food justice, and peer education.
• Experience working with high-risk, marginalized clients at the intersection of system barriers.
• Knowledge of issues specifically affecting day laborers and newly arrived immigrants.
• Connection with local organizations for volunteer recruitment.
• Additional language capacities are a plus: such as Mongolian and Mam.
• Knowledge of service agencies in Alameda County and existing relationships with Oakland service providers.
