Supervisor of Client Services: Hybrid Position

The Urban Justice Center (UJC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of NYC’s most vulnerable citizens.  The Domestic Violence Project (DVP) at the Urban Justice Center is seeking to hire a Supervisor of Client Services to work with and on behalf of survivors of domestic violence. DVP’s mission is to help victims of domestic violence and their children live free of violence and abuse. We consider domestic violence in any type of relationship, regardless of gender or sexual identity, to be a human rights violation.  Our work focuses on providing legal and advocacy services to promote justice and vigorously defend and protect victims’ human rights. To accomplish this, our attorneys and advocates provide legal representation in NYC Family and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts, crisis counseling and safety planning, advocacy, case management, and on-going domestic violence education and outreach activities throughout the five boroughs of New York City. 

DVP seeks a full-time Supervisor to work within a trauma informed, evidence based and legal-psychosocial framework with survivors of domestic violence. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist Director of Client Services with Program Planning
• Assist advocates with understanding full range of criminal, civil and available community based services and how to make meaningful referrals
• Supervise staff, advocacy and case management volunteers and interns
• Facilitate team meetings
• Review all advocacy and case management services including but not limited to emergency shelter advocacy, criminal justice advocacy, civil legal advocacy, housing advocacy and entitlements assistance provided by Advocates
• Facilitate and co-facilitate groups
• Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation thereof of all contact and services
• Collect and maintain data collection required for monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics
• Participate in regular team meetings, professional development trainings, and workshops
• Conduct education and outreach to the community and sister agencies
• Assist in training staff internally as well as within the community

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and trauma
• Supervising experience
• Proficiency working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Aptitude for intense and thorough negotiation and advocacy
• Ability to work evenings if necessary
• Ability to respond sensitively to clients’ urgent needs
• Exceptional interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills and the ability to apply these skills in diverse situations
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work as a team member
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Must be able to travel between boroughs
• Interest and proclivity in working within a legal framework 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or significant experience in the field
• Experience working with victims of domestic violence
• Fluent in conversational Spanish encouraged
