Outreach Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Outreach & Community Engagement, the Outreach Specialist conducts outreach and recruitment for all JVS programs. As a first impression of the JVS community, the Outreach Specialist delivers the highest level of customer service, as well as efficient and effective direction and assistance to all potential and current clients. The Outreach Specialist is responsible for supporting client services' outreach goals by doing in-person marketing of programs in the community through distributing fliers to individuals, community agencies, businesses and tabling at community events. The outreach specialist works 80% of the time out in the community and 20% of the time in the office planning outreach in coordination with community partnership specialists and marketing teams and providing customer support at JVS Boston’s central location. A successful outreach worker has strong communication skills, marketing, time management, and customer relations capabilities, as well as a true commitment to JVS’s mission and goals. 

This role includes working at some evening and weekend events in the community as a regular part of your 5-day work week. You will be expected to work two to three events per week outside of regular business hours, this includes 1-2 evenings and a weekend day, usually Saturday. The regular office day is Monday. You can choose which weekday you do not work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Build relationships, collaboration, and teamwork:

  • Support and promote the mission and philosophy of JVS both internally and outside the agency
  • Create community outreach action plan in collaboration with the community partnership team and marketing team to reach potential clients in the community
  • Work collaboratively with, and encourage collaboration between, team members to ensure performance goals are met
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and team-based projects 
  • Communicate regularly with Supervisor and outreach coordinator to ensure smooth delivery of services
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all JVS programs and procedures related to the Student Support Center, JVS Welcome Meetings

Contribute to program success: 

  • Implement the JVS Boston Outreach Strategy by working with outreach coordinator and marketing team to develop a plan to distribute flyers and provide feedback on how flyers can be more effective
  • Take ownership of the outreach specialist role as the lead of the direct to client outreach strategy both in and outside the JVS Client Services team 
  • Generate strategy and solutions in response to unforeseen change, setbacks, and challenges 
  • Develop an action plan in partnership with your manager to implement outreach activities in the community to ensure that clients engage with JVS, 
  • Document results of outreach activities through weekly reports shared with the Client Services Leadership Team
  • Share insights on client and community needs and effectiveness of outreach strategy based on knowledge gained in the community
  • Greet customers in a respectful, timely, and courteous manner; notify appropriate program staff of appointment arrivals when staffing the Student Services Desk
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of agency services to best direct customers to appropriate services/programs

Administrative/Communication

  • Assist with planning and implementation of community outreach activities
  • Perform other duties as requested

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Two or more years of related experience
  • Ability to speak multiple languages; Spanish and Haitian Creole highly preferred
  • Professional appearance and customer service delivery with exceptional verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with and assist a multi-cultural customer base, including those with low levels of English proficiency and limited educational backgrounds
  • Excellent integrity and moral character and proven ability to use sound judgment when making decisions
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to manage time autonomously
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule including working some evenings and weekends as part of the regular weekly schedule
  • Comfortable traveling around the Boston Metro Area
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management preferred
  • Quick learner, proactive, and resourceful

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Diploma and 1-2 years related experience

WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular local travel, evening hours, and some weekend availability are required.
