Part of the Solution (POTS) offers an array of comprehensive and personalized services to fight poverty and hunger in The Bronx, at no cost to clients. Annually, POTS serves more than 35,000 people, including 12,000 children. Our services are organized around three programmatic pillars: a Dignity and Wellness Program provides shower, mail, haircut and medical and dental services; a Food Security Program offers hot meals and groceries; and a Long-Term Stability Program provides guidance on applications for public benefits and mentoring for long-term personal growth.

About the position

The Associate Director, Institutional Giving creates and implement strategies for maximizing fundraising revenues from institutional sources, including Foundations, Corporations and Government to support the long-term vision of POTS. The Associate Director, Institutional Giving will develop long-term strategy, maintain relationships with existing institutional funders, develop new relationships with new funding sources, oversee the research, grant writing and reporting process and ensure quality and integrity in all the work presented to outside funder partners. The Associate Director will work with the Grant Writer and other leadership staff to ensure information is captured and disseminated about POTS in service of receiving grants from Institutional partners.

·        Institutional Donor Strategy: Lead a comprehensive multi-year development strategy focused on foundations, corporations and government entities. POTS is in an expansionary phase with many consistent institutional donors and a number of relationships that could grow. A multi-year institutional donor engagement strategy is required to ensure POTS can meet its revenue needs for its diverse programs as the program expands.

·        Grant writing, reporting and calendar oversight: Manage grants process, for both foundation, corporate and government grants, including proposals, applications, mid-term and final grant reports. Oversee the work of POTS Grant Writer.

·        Institutional Funder Relationship Management: Increase funding from all channels through effective communications for solicitation, stewardship and cultivation of donors. These activities will be done in collaboration with the Director of Development and Senior Leadership.

Grant Research and Planning: Develop and maintain POTS’ institutional understanding of existing and potential individual and organizational donors. Generate individual donor and foundation prospect research from internal files and external sources. Assist in defining giving targets and solicitation strategies for institutional donors. Pursue additional avenues for philanthropic support via institutional networks and research.

Required Skills

·        Identification with POTS’s mission and values

·        Bachelor’s Degree or higher

·        A minimum of 6 years of institutional fundraising experience

·        Strong writing skills and direct grant writing expertise as well as a track record of successfully securing institutional funding in a competitive fundraising environment

·        Strong planning, strategy, financial, budgeting, and analytical skills

·        Strong time-management skills and ability to uphold deadlines

·        Proficiency with a fundraising database, such as Salesforce

·        Database management: Ability to manage data and create relevant reports using database software for the purposes of grant applications and individual donor solicitations

·        Excellent communication skills, with particularly strong written and oral presentation abilities

·        Must be a proactive and creative problem-solver; adaptive to a growing, changing organization

·        Willingness to travel

Preferred Skills

·        Enjoys interaction with the diverse stakeholders of a nonprofit organization, including donors, volunteers and staff

Occasionally willing to work on weekends or after hours.
