  • One-year grant-funded position (from start date) with the possibility of renewal

The Community Participation Manager will help to shape a new program to create the next generation of TAC programming enabling our organization and community to imagine and explore new avenues to contribute to our growing public art ecosystem.

About The Avenue Concept

2022 is a time of growth and expansion for The Avenue Concept, and we are building a team to create a new Community Participation Program. We are growing, challenging ourselves, and imagining new possibilities for public art. The Avenue Concept has existed as an idea for ten years and as a nonprofit for five. Our growing team will join our expanded Board of Directors, advisory council members, and key partners in continuing to envision and execute our new strategic and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals and shaping our next decade for public art.

About the Role

The Community Participation Manager will execute a series of projects and initiatives, working with leadership to co-create systems to strengthen and grow authentic relationships in communities where we deliver public art and to measure the effect/impact/outcomes of our programs in useful and innovative ways. This will require thinking about the project life cycle from concept through identifying goals, intended/unintended outcomes, improvement, and completion.

TAC is committed to providing a supportive onboarding process and working environment with clear expectations and goals. The position will be supported by a new cross-department Project Coordinator and paid interns. The program has a dedicated project budget, and we have created a loosely-defined work plan for the next year to support the Manager in setting and accomplishing realistic and measurable goals. We intend to guide while also allowing the manager flexibility to bring their own experience and creativity to the process.

Activities include research, data collection, project management, budget planning and oversight, process improvement, events and engagement activities.  The Manager will support TAC’s mission and commitment to building authentic relationships and equitable practices together and contribute to creating a supportive culture where failing, reflecting, learning, and improving are acceptable parts of the work.

Our Ideal Candidate

This describes our ideal, and we anticipate the successful candidate will fit some but not all of the description. We encourage you to apply even if you aren’t sure or are missing some of these listed skills and experience. If you have experience in program and project management, are passionate about our work, and believe you have the skills to accomplish the job, we want to hear from you.

You believe public art sparks conversation, interaction, and understanding through storytelling, shared experience, and visual media. You take initiative to create routines and use tools to work effectively and efficiently. You remain committed to your values and accountability under pressure. You have professional or lived experience within the city of Providence and Upper South Providence neighborhoods (where our headquarters are located and the Avenue Concept was founded), Black, Indigenous, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latina/Latinx, immigrant, or LGBTQ2S+ communities.

You are a problem-solver who can connect dots across programs and initiatives and identify systems and processes needing adjustments. You have experience planning, managing, and completing complex projects. You have led or participated in collaborative decision-making processes involving diverse stakeholders, including directly affected community members, staff and board, and external partners and community members.

You have a strong interest in bridging the gap between research/data and real-world settings. You are experienced in or interested in learning to communicate, synthesize and convey ideas clearly to a wide audience and have experience collecting and managing data with tools including CRM or project management software.

You know that details and words matter and are intentional with how you show up and communicate with others. You commit to empowerment and professional development and have experience managing and supervising staff, volunteers, or students. You demonstrate openness to change and embrace curiosity and growth.

You see yourself as an evaluator, researcher, strategic planner, facilitator, and organizer, and you are comfortable working partially remotely with a small team.

Responsibilities

This role will report to the Deputy Director and can expect to engage around the following core activities:

  • Support team in executing public art projects, including one large signature project, utility boxes, and six small-mid size projects for local business/ organizations
