CSAJ works at the intersection of gender-based violence, poverty, and social inequality. Given CSAJ’s mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we strongly encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities to apply.

About CSAJ

The Center for Survivor Agency and Justice is a national organization that advances economic equity for survivors of gender-based violence. CSAJ envisions a world where all people have equal access to physical safety, economic security, and human dignity. Our mission is to promote transformative advocacy approaches that remove systemic barriers, enhance organizational responses, and improve professional practices to meet the self-defined needs of domestic and sexual violence survivors. CSAJ is composed of a small team of diverse and cross-discipline advocates who are wholly committed to creative and justice-minded social change work for survivors of gender-based violence.

About the Position

The Communications and Project Coordinator will report to CSAJ’s Director of Research and Programs and offer direct support to CSAJ’s Managing Attorney and Policy Manager, to ensure that training, technical assistance, and systems change efforts are planned and carried out effectively and that key learnings and tools are shared with the field.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

The Communications & Project Coordinator is a new role for CSAJ. This position will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission by coordinating project-related communications and providing administrative support. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, is creative and tactical, and brings a passion for social justice and a desire to contribute to a small and highly-collaborative team.

They will primarily work alongside CSAJ’s Managing Attorney, Policy Manager, and Director of Programs, but also support and work with our Executive Director, Board of Directors, and our cadre of external partners and consultants.

Communications:

  • Coordinate all project-related communications, ensuring alignment with CSAJ's mission and working to advance project-specific objectives. The ideal candidate will not only execute needs, but bring a cohesive approach to cross-project communications.
  • Develop engaging content for CSAJ’s social media platforms, website, newsletters, and other distribution channels to promote project activities, including trainings, events, resource development, and promotions.
  • Establish and institutionalize organizational practices to sustain and enhance CSAJ's project communications efforts, including communications calendars, reports for grant requirements and organizational learning, analyzing and setting communication benchmarks, and collaborating with project teams to brainstorm new ideas to advance their project goals.
  • Maintain and update communications platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, website, social media, Zoom) to reflect current project work, delegating tasks as necessary, with the potential to supervise future communications staff, interns, and volunteers.

Administrative and technical support:

  • Provide logistical and technical support to CSAJ's core project activities, including coordinating planning meetings, managing event promotion and marketing efforts, providing tech-support and serving as tech-host to events, or serving as the primary liaison for tech-related needs.
  • Support project activity learning, archiving, and reporting by organizing training/event details, tracking registration and evaluation data, and disseminating training resources through various channels.
  • Assist the Managing Attorney in coordinating technical assistance and training requests, including monitoring email accounts, responding to requests, and maintaining relevant databases.

Other project coordination and organizational administration as able:

As a small team, all CSAJ staff play a role in shaping the organization as a whole. While not essential to the position, we see this role contributing capacity to:

  • Overarching project management and project team culture, from attending meetings, to identifying and assisting administrative needs, and helping maintain project work plans, led by Policy Manager and Managing Attorney (the project leads).
  • Organizational learning via monthly, quarterly, and annual media/communications reports, advised by the Director of Programs.
  • Organizational development via support to Board and Strategic Partner meetings, team events, organizational communications needs as described above, and other tactical or technical support to the Executive Director.

Qualifications Required:

  • Previous experience in communications, event, or project coordination, and/or administrative roles.  You do not have to have it all, but some past experience and an ability to apply past experience in new ways with highly-collaborative teams is a must.
  • Crafting communications content and messaging in related social justice field, ideally with issue expertise in gender-based violence,  and/or economic or racial justice
  • Adaptable and clear communication (visual, verbal, written) with internal staff and for external products. Will be supervised by the Director of Programs, but accountable to 2 projects with different Project Managers. Must be able to plug into ongoing work plans and teams, take and give direction, prioritize, and problem-solve in collaborative style with all members of CSAJ’s team.
  • The ideal candidate will be a capacity builder, proactively developing processes, protocols, and systems to support current project work and communications, but also grow/expand communications and organizational capacity.
  • Communications platforms (ie. Mailchimp, social media platforms, Zoom, Canva or other design tools,  etc.).
  • Project Management tools (ie. Google Suite, Monday.com (or similar project management platforms, like Asana), Google forms or other survey tools.
  • Administrative tools (ie. Excel spreadsheets, database development or management, ease with learning new platforms/tools).
  • Previous administrative, project and/or communications experience. Can grow into any area, but needs desire to do so and ability to bring and apply past experience.
  • Past work in virtual/remote organizations, ideally with experience in running or supporting virtual project or organizational operations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills for tracking and organizing communications and project materials and data.

Additionally, we’re looking for someone who is:

  • Proactive and self-directed.
  • Oriented toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to bring their own experience and contribute to overall organizational culture.
