For over 37 years, Community Lunch on Capitol Hill has been providing hot meals, clothing and other critical services to those enduring homelessness and economic hardship. We are 501(c)3 non-profit that strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. We require no sign-in. All are welcome.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant (30+hrs./week) is a dynamic position that focuses on daily operations. In addition, a successful candidate will work with the Executive Director on resource development and other administrative responsibilities. Working at Community Lunch means joining a staff that values diversity, collaboration, and compassion in an environment that treats everyone with dignity and respect. 

Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduling, coordination, and supervision of volunteers
• Assist with preparation of the meal. Cooking experience a plus.
• Assist with the collection and sorting of food and clothing donations
• Assist with inventory management of food, clothing, and other critical supplies
• Be present during the meal service to help build a sense of community between guests, staff, and volunteers. Help de-escalate if conflicts arise.
• Assist with the collection and management of critical data. This includes, but is not limited to, donation, meal, clothing, donor, and volunteer information.
• Work with the Executive Director on donation drives, fundraisers, and other development activities
• An essential part of this position is being able to work effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors, vendors and guests in an inclusive, collaborative and cooperative environment. A pleasant and professional attitude is essential.
• A successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director to tailor the position to their strengths and development goals.

Requirements

• Must be compassionate and comfortable working with those enduring homelessness and economic hardship
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs. up and down stairs
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Some experience with Word, Excel, Office 365, Google Drive
• Since working with a vulnerable and often exploited population a background check is required.
• King County Food Handlers permit required within 30-days of employment
• Up to date COVID-19 vaccination
