Communications Organizer

The Communications Organizer position will be based remotely. This position will work closely with the Deputy Director of Communications and other Communications staff to grow UWU’s email lists, increase email engagement, run interactive online campaigns, and engage audiences online. Unemployed Workers United’s Communications Deputy Director directly supervises the Communications Organizer.

Key Relationships: Communications Director, Deputy Director of Communications Communications staff, Co-Directors of Distributed Organizing, Deputy Director of Distributed Organizing, National Distributed Organizers

Location: Remote

Compensation:  $68,000/year (benefits-eligible) 

Responsibilities: 

• Work closely with the Deputy Director of Communications to support the development and implementation of email campaigns and other communications materials to build email lists and support member engagement 
• Implement creative output and strong writing skills to increase engagement in email campaigns 
• Support creation and implementation of digital content to increase email list-building and grow UWU’s base 
• Work with Deputy Director of Communications to analyze data and adjust practices for best engagement through the use of our current CRM
• Handle other projects related to advancing Unemployed Workers United. Assist the Communications Team as needed. Attend various UWU functions

Desired Qualifications and Skills: 

• Experience writing thoughtful, creative, and engaging email content
• Experience in digital organizing, preferably in grassroots/ labor organizing or electoral political positions 
• Experience with Action Network or NationBuilder
• Strong writing skills across a variety of platforms and mediums (i.e emails, social media, petitions, blogs, op-eds, etc)
• Passion for social justice, building power in multi-racial working-class communities, decolonizing political organizing spaces, empowering grassroots leaders, and enacting impactful socio-economic policies towards long-term systemic changes
• Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects; long and short-term campaigns, strategic and organizational planning
• Understanding of accessibility standards and ability to design accessible materials.
• Proven ability to handle projects, set priorities, manage details, and follow through independently
• Flexibility and a willingness to take on tasks large and small.  A “can-do” attitude.
• Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, including planning, keeping organized files, and problem-solving
